Karl, I love it when you talk dirty to me.
|
Guys:
Hey its been awhile, nice to see a few familar names. I honestly like to do my own oil changes, gives me a chance to check out the underneath of the car plus a lot of shops don't change out the crush ring around the plug when they do the change. I used the Pit Stop on Main in Mesa for some work on my Cobra (when I had it). The reason I started using them for work was that I saw a MKII Jag in the shop there and they were working on the rear end. So since the Unique had a Jag rear it seemed natural. BTW has anyone seen my old Unique at any events. Just wondering where the heck it finally ended up. Scott |
Okay, you guys kinda shamed me into it so I changed my own oil. Everything went fine -- thanks for the suggestion of jacking the car and putting boards under the front tires and chalking the rears, made me much less nervous about the car falling on me. It was nerve racking torqueing that drain plug though. Had to special order my oil filter thru a Ford dealership, I checked everywhere that was suggested and everywhere I thought of but nothing in stock. $20 for a filter -- man.
Also thanks all for the suggested places to get my oil changed. That'll be my plan B if I strip out my pan threads and lose all confidence. |
Oil Change!
Piece of mind = go to some place nice; read a magazine; have a cup of coffee and relax while the professional changes your oil.
Now if you want to get under engines I have a few on a floating barge that can be nasty to get around and work on? The oil pan is the size of a garbage can. |
Sandy, Tell whomever that you want a set of jack stands for your birthday or Christmas. They are a wonderful addition to any garage.
|
Sandy,
Do you mind passing on the part number and where you got the filter? I cannot even get my cobra out of the garage to put enough miles on it to need an oil change yet but was wondering if Roush specifies a certain filter for the warranty. I hope to be able to get it out in 6 more weeks. This is killing me sincethis is prime driving weather. I wouldn't think it would take a specific one but I thought I would ask since we have the same engine. Ron |
Ron,
The filter is a MotorCraft Racing FL-1HP Oil Filter. Got it thru Sanderson Ford but any Ford dealership should be able to order it for you. Sanderson may even have it in stock occassionally. Sanderson Ford is kind of big into the Roush stuff. But like I said, $20 -- ouch. |
Thanks Sandy I appreciate it.

filter
Hi,
Summit racing has them about $12 Perry. |
Sandy, I have been using the same filter since 2000. When I can't find the FL-1HP I use the Purolator equivalent from Pep Boys or the FL-1A. I'm sure you are changing oil more often than you have to. We all do.

I change my oil about once a year and that's about 5000 miles. I use Royal Purple and a K&N filter that costs me about $10. I've got over 25,000 miles on the engine and they have not been all that gentle, but then, its a Chebby and is inherently able to withstand neglect and abuse. I've never had the oil analyzed but when I do change it, I can barely hold on to the filter when I slop oil down the sides of it. Very scientific reasoning that the oil is still plenty slippery. ha.
|
Scott.. It's good to see you are still alive and well.
John, Every 1,000 miles? Please change it ever 5K and send me the money you save. I change every 3 to 5K depending on how I feel. Just plain ole dino oil and a mundane Ford FL-1 filter. This motor has alot more than the 48K I've put on it. Gotta love a FORD. Mike |
Hi Sandy
If you need a space I have ramps and carpet in my hanger at the chandler airport. I also have a place to dump the oil. |
Sandy, I have been using the same filter since 2000.
Bob, I think it's time for a new filter! ;) I used a K&N last time but tried a Motorsports this time around. Anything but a Fram. I've got over 25,000 miles on the engine and they have not been all that gentle Karl, you drive like my grandma....Of course, she's dead. :) |
Hey Mikiec, yes I do change the oil every 1,000 miles. I figure that for the $15.00 involved it is good insurance. John
|
Maricopa, Do you suppose we've answered part of one question? We now know that Bob doesn't work all those hours on weekends to pay for oil filters.. One oil filter in 9 years...
|
Hey, the idiot light hasn't come one yet! Doesn't that mean "do nothing"? (Do I have an idiot light?)
AZ Bob |
"(Do I have an idiot light?)" What a straight line Bob...
