Where's Tuscon John?
Last I heard of John we was leaving on a 48 state cruise in June. Did he survive, is he back? John, how about an update? It's been pretty quiet from Tuscon lately.
He's back and survived. He will chime in soon.
Something about 11K miles on the trip. See this thread: http://www.ffcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223030 Mike |
Hey John....did you meet Weendoggy? He's they guy that had to fly back because his back went "out". Glen is a nice guy.
Hi Mike, Yes, I did meet Weendoggy and his wife at the FFR Open House. They made the long drive and lived to tell about it. They had car problems right from the start. The sun and rain took it's toll on them as well as the usual discomforts of the bucket seats. They seemed like a very nice couple. i hope that their Cobra arrived home safely. I have just added up my gas costs : $1,300.03. The motel cost ranged from $36.00 to $74.00. The other day I cleaned the radiator, it took 1 1/2 hours. The front has hundreds of stone chips as well as the windshield. The speedometer went out in London, Oh., the cable was twisted so badly that it pulled out of the transmission and destroied itself on the ground as I drove to Chicago. Oh well, I'll have a new one in on Tuesday. Want to buy a "slighty used" Cobra ?
John.....my hat's off to you for completion of a really long and tough solo drive. We (Eastsiders) talked about you last friday night over dinner at Bass Pro. I came up with and idea that probably only you would appreciate.
I am a fan of the Tour de France. Watching the races I note how beautiful the mountain and valley towns are. How about a trip with the cobra's over the Tour de France bike route? Yes, ship the cars to Europe and take a tour around the south of France. I'm going to do some research. I know it would be a first for Factory Five cars and think of the interest it would generate. Maybe we could get some sponsership from FFR? |
Let's do it. How about three weeks, start in Spain, drive to France, and end in Germany. We might be able to get some track time in each of the countries. I know that the rush hour traffic over there is as bad as ours and the weather is worse except for June and Sept. The last that I heard, about two years ago, was that it costs about $1,200 each way to ship a car. I was thinking iof driving to Alaska next year but I can put it off and go to France instead. You might make a general posting here and get some input from the Cobra owners in Europe. It's do able !!!!!!!!!
What an idea! My car should be much more comfortable, when its ever done, and I might be able to talk my sweetie into such a trip. Wonder how bad the insurance would be? I'm sure that would be an individual issue, and there are some people that might have slightly higher premiums than those that manage to keep their cars on the pavement.
I don't know about insurance, but it is priced with a formula that involves horsepower and total value of the vehicle. The thing that would deter me from such a trip is that gas is about $8.72/gallon. That's the price two years ago.
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...bal_gasprices/ Guess I was wrong. It's not that pricey anymore. |
The gas price at Ryan Airport this morning was $3.91 per gallon of 100 Oct. low lead. I'll get the German automobile price for a gallon later today. I wonder if we'll have to convert our gas guzzeling V8's to diesels before we go. Diesel fuel is the most common gas there. I just spoke to Aida about it and she is ready to go, however, she wants a real car to drive in, in Europe.
Todays gas prices: France=$5.54 per gallon
Germany=$5.57 Spain=$4.55 Italy=$5.96 Andorra=$4.08 Switzerland=$4.74 Luxembourg=$4.82 Portugal=$5.35 And the winner is::::::: London at $5.96 per gallon !!!!!!! |
Gas price guys!
You might want to check again. The prices shown are from March 2005! Check the CNN/money article. They just sounded too low as my neighbor just got back from Italy and he was paying almost $9.50 a gallon. Sold by the liter so you have to convert. SkipB |
I would much rather spend my money in the USA, than over in Europe. But, that's just me.
Mike |
I found those prices on the CNN Money page about two hours ago. MIKIEC, when did you start spending your money ?
He hasn't John. He's waiting for the day that HE has to buy ice cream.
Shots fired!
Not to worry, Dan's gun isn't loaded and Mikiec's still looking for a weapon. Ginny is the one I'm now afraid of.
"Ginny is the one I'm now afraid of." I've seen her targets, John. You are wise to be afraid, very afraid! As are we all.
And she has access to the .45. that she affectionately calls the "OH SH$T" gun.

Today's air fare on United....$669 rount trip per person (PHX - Barcelona -PHX). Hotels <$100 per night. Two weeks air plus hotel $2738. Where did you get the shipping charges for the Cobra and what were the port pairs? Maybe if shipping was too much we could rent Mini Cooper covertibles? Sounds like it would be fun, huh?
You want to drive Mini Coopers in France ????????????? Next thing you'll want to do is sit be the road side and sip wine and eat cheese. As for the shipping charges, I know nothing . Wouldn't be something if we could get 20 guys together and drive a couple of thousand miles to the departure port before going to Eurpoe. That would show everyone that we have the b...s to drive these things. How about shipping out of Houston to Barcelona, driving all the way to England and shipping back from there to Miami.
