Where is the best place to place the weights?

Best place.. On the wheel. Best way to balance...evenly.
Now that the smart assed stuff is out of the way.. The best place to place the weights on a wheel is evenly distributed on each side. The farther off the centerline of the wheel, the less weight is needed to effect the balance. The best way to balance is under dynamic load. Spining the wheel while placing it under a simulated load from a vehicle. |

I struggled with balancing on my 15" BFGs for quite a while. I finally gave in & let the shop install clip-on weights on the rim instead of the adhesive weights. Wow, what a difference! The tires are still junk, but at least the vast majority of the vibration is gone. The clip-on weights don't look that bad to me now. |
Use the adhesive weights in the centre of the wheel but be sure and put race tape over them or they will fly... there are a couple of places in town that have rolling road balancers and those are really the best..

Road Force Balance
Check out locations for the Hunter GSP 9700 Road Force Balance Machine:
http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/search/FindLocations.cfm I have oversize tires on my SUV (Bridgestone Revo's on 17" Cobra "R" rims) that are huge and heavy. Having them road force balanced (with stick-on weights on the inside only) made a world of difference. No shake or shimmy up into triple digits. Pulled the PSE FIA wheels and BFG's off my ERA, and was going to take them in, until I saw that I only had 3/4 oz. weight on the worst one. No noticeable vibrations, so I decided to leave well enough alone, and did not have them re-balanced. regards, Jeff |

That is the discount tire I always use. It has taken as many as 3 trips to get the BFG's balanced on their road force unit. Mike |

I agree with you on the BFG's.. But that's all I can afford. And not many make the size's I need. Fronts 235/60/15 rears 275/50/15 or 295/50/15. That does not leave much of a choice. And I'll not go to 17inch rims. Mike |

Same answer I gave you over at the FFR Forum. Road Force balance off the car. If that doesn't do it, find a shop (and they are few and far between) that will do the balance on the car. That WILL do it! |
I've never had road force balance not work 100% for me.

Ok, I agree with the road force balance. I'll try to find a shop that does the the balance on the car.
Now for the weights? I have heard they are best done on the outer most mass. IE: the outside of the rim near the beads. I know most of us have the weigths done on the inside for asthetics reasons. I do not mind them showing. Opinions???? Mike |
