Default What color to paint the top?

Hey guys,

Just installed the hardtop and was planning to paint it flat black to simulate a softtop, since the seams and threads show in the fiberglass.

But, the top came gray and I kinda like the contrast with the gray and black. I would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have. Need help. Thanks

Looks pretty darn good to me.....leave it the way it is.

I painted my hard top but mine has a smooth look to it
and my back window is much smaller than yours....

Russ, I think it's great looking top as well and the lighter color is a good looking contrast. Where is the top from? Do they have one to fit a BDR? Thanks.........

Jim,

Ron Butler built the top. It will not fit a Backdraft without a lot of work to fit the fenders. Would be tough to do.

Thanks to all for the comments.

Russ, Thats the niciest hard top I've ever seen. Its a shame it won't fit a BDR car. I'll continue the hunt. Enjoy....

Don't touch that top!! It looks just like a natural soft top, and looks cooler than ANY hard top made. Nicest hard top solution ever executed!!

I agree with the guys ... really like the color and contrast. If you want to paint it to cover the seams and threads ... try to match the way it came.

Just curious, what does the inside look like?

The inside of the top is gray headliner material with a foam backing. The simulated bows on the outside are creases on the inside just like a regular headliner. There is a lot of headroom.

I like the look. Maybe a coat of matte clear.

Russ, the top looks just great. The grey top to black body contrast is a perfect combination with a close-enough match to the wheel centers. And it looks great with the silver side pipes. If you ever think you need to paint it, match the grey to the wheel centers, not metallac, just grey.

Did you see the post for the guy looking to buy a Butler? Do you still have one for sale?

Arthur,

Thanks to you and all who have commented. I think it will remain gray. A little matte clear might be in the works to seal in the color and protect against bird droppings.

Yes, I did see that Redd is looking for a Butler. He was aware of the car I sold. It sold to a guy in the Rio Grande Valley.

There is a tremendous amount of headroom in Russ' car with top on. The way Ron Butler made that top is superb. That back window is large and offers plebty of vision all the way around.

I do however think that Russ will need to wear a helmet or place a little padding in the right places...he wacked his head everytime he got in the car with the top on...lol.

I'm learning slowly...you've got to bend just right and keep your head down...just like in golf....don't look up.

It's really not so bad...just not accustomed to bending so low...I will learn how.
