Arntz/Butler Cobra?

3 Attachment(s)
Dear all,

I own a Cobra and I´m not sure if it is an early Arntz Butler car. I would be intersted in your opinion. The car has the MGB front suspension a Jaguar rear end. I think it was imported to Germany in the late 70`s but I´m not sure about that.

I try to attach some pictures! Many thanks in advance!

Thomas

The frame Maybe ? But the body is not Artnz/Butler. They had no rear fender lip. More pictures please.

The frame looks correct. 3x4 rails with a cross member under the engine. 1x4 out rigger frame under the seats. 4 to 1 collectors and square flange exactly like mine. 4 round tail lights and trunk hinges exposed.

Gas filler is in a different location. I have rear fender lips but not that large. Hood locks are in a different location. These could have been changed from original.
Dash board is different but once again, owner preference.

More pictures: Engine compartment, around steering shaft/throttle linkage area. Radiator. Fiberglass covering the front suspension. Door hinges and latches. Turn indicator at steering wheel.

I'm thinking Arntz not Butler.

The gas tank cap is inthe original Arntz position. Mine had it there originally but it was glassed over and moved to the rear fender.

Dash looks to have a glove box. No room behind my dash for a glove box. Maybe just a door?

I am trying to I.D. our cobra. I am told it is possibly an Arntz car. Though the frame on our Cobra has 4" square tubing, a mustang vin #, jaguar rear differential. I have no paperwork for the car. Mustang II front suspension and the lower control arm is a cast iron lower control arm with a strut rod. I believe the one major factor to help I.D. the car is the front lower control arms. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Perhaps start by creating a stand alone thread of your own instead of resurrecting one that died in 2013

I believe Arntz used 4”x3” frame rails.

How about a Unique Motorcars Cobra? They used the MGB/Jaguar combo.

Indeed they do! Do you have a factory serial number?

lal Naja 12-21-2024 10:58 AM

If it's a Butler Racing Cobra you'll see a stamped serial number on the left front of the chassis. Here's a link to a photo of my Butler serial number.
