Is that VIN the Arntz # stamped on the frame, or a VIN issued by the state when it was first registered? I had the latter on my WCC and I discovered the date is actually coded in the VIN. For A186L061285 it wouldn't surprise me to find the "061285" represents the date registered.

Yes stamped on the frame.

Arntz had no numbers identifying the year or anything on the frame. Butler had it when he took over the company.

Does the title have a year on it? That would probably be the year it was registered.

I really like this car, and I wonder why it’s been bought and sold more than any other Arntz. Perhaps it’s the SBC in the engine bay (which I think looks fabulous with the quad sidedraft carbs squeezed under the flat hood!).
Whatever the case, it’s been for sale 8 or 10 times in the last 10 years, through multiple auction sites, dealers and private sellers.
The state issued VIN is attached to the chassis via a plate, rather than being stamped into the chassis.

State-issued VIN? Highly likely the "061285" represents the date registered - it certainly does on my Michigan VIN.

I think we are talking about the same thing Brian. Whatever state you first register the vehicle, they issue you with a VIN that is separate to whatever the manufacturer used for the chassis number.
Some states might have used the registration date, but many didn’t. Either way, it’s the state that chooses/issues the VIN.

This poor car just can’t seem to find a long term owner... Less than 6 months later and it is up for sale again. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Shelby...4AAOSw56FctJeM

At various times, the price has been in the low $30s to the high $40s. Starting bid this time is $45k.

Before you buy make sure that you are fine with morons who don't know when to keep their mouth shut. You will hear all types of comments on how that Chevy engine ruined the car. If you thick skinned and that doesn't bother you, continue to look it over.

Kind of hard to understand how well this car appreciates in value. Don't over pay for it.

The money in that engine conversion could have had a 600hp Ford under the bonnet.

Looks nice, but bet those air filters are restrictive.

Do you think he would know what size DCOEs he has on there? ...... or any other details of the engine?

Or perhaps I would get a salesman BS response?

Kind of what I thought. Spending that kind of money to make it look like a Ford engine seems foolish to me.

If you've got a Chevy engine under the hood then 'own' it. If you're embarassed about having a Chevy engine, then replace it.

If it has a Chevy engine in it I'm confused. Is the engine mounted backwards because the distributor is towards the fan.

It has a front mounted distributor as a conversion to make it look like a Ford engine. A close up view on where a Chevy distributor normally goes shows a dummy drive shaft for the oil pump.

The valve covers are meant to look Fordish, but the Chevy header configuration is the first giveaway.

@Laszlo01: did you buy this car? The last I knew, it was for sale in Michigan, not far from me. I meant to go see it but "life got in the way" and never did.

This car has changed hands several times since 2009. Here is a post I made a few years ago tracking its history: Seeking Information about a Blue Arntz with a single White Stripe and Red Interior
