Help Wanted to Identify

2 Attachment(s)
Hi Community. I bought a AC Cobra with a 427 Chevy Engine. The Cobra was listed in a famous "Barret-Jackson" auction as "Butler Build", back in 2012. The VIN is 7R03T177836. It was issued by the state of California. First matriculation 04/1967.

Who is able to help me out, to identify the car and find out if it is a real Butler and what the effective year of built it is.

Please share more pictures of the vehicle including the interior, decklid, chassis including front and rear suspensions.

Dang, can that distributor cap be removed for servicing the distributor? Possibly old aluminum L88 heads on that motor - nice. Helps keep the weight of that big block down.

But, no help on your question.

Definitely looks like an Arntz/Butler body with the beautiful, accurate shape and lines. Did Butler have the radical mid-engine setback as well, or was that strictly a feature of the Arntz Cobras? Some cars even had an extra cutout or notch at the rear of the hood opening to allow easier access to Chevy distributors. That combination no doubt gives the Ford blue-bloods painful hemorrhoids, but I'm sure its a rocket with that big rat motor between the fenders.

Long Live the Chevy in a Cobra!!! Or should I say Chevy in a AC ?

Messing up a perfectly good Cobra by putting a Chevy in it **) what's next, a Dodge V-10 Oh wait that's been done too  What's this world coming too :p Cheers TommyRot.

My NAF, that I had for 13 years had a 496 Chevy with a TH400 trans. The world was coming to an end, when I told it to GO. I'd carry the LF wheel into high gear and ran 10.70s with MT street radials. GOD how I miss that power! That big old truck engine would plow corn and pull stumps all day long and still run like a stripedassedape!. :)

After buying the assets of Arntz Industries, Ron Butler Racing built an additional 104 vehicles between 1980-1994. Ron Butler Racing cars have a stamped number on the front of the frame on the drivers' side, just behind the bumper mount which starts with BRI. The digits after BRI represent the month, year, chassis number. For examples, SoTxButler's chassis number BRI391086 which decodes as March, 1991, chassis#86.

Please share additional pictures of your car, especially of the interior, trunk, front and rear suspensions. Since a Mustang VIN was used, my guess is that it is a home-built vehicle of some sort. Pictures will help us identify which kit this could be.

Front suspension MGB ?

Beams i in doors ?

uh oh, fuel cell ! Beware !

Otherwise looks well built.

Thor maine 08-08-2021 09:12 PM

What's wrong with a fuel cell?

MOTORHEAD 08-09-2021 05:31 AM

Thor:
Limited life and expensive.
This appears to be an older replica, so the cell could be bad ( they tend to disintegrate with age)
