One thing I noticed about my Arntz frame has the number 6 was stamped at the front member of the driver's side. It was not very large or very deep, just a machinist punch hit with a hammer. Once I painted the frame with a couple of coats of Rustoleum I couldn't find it anymore. Jamo, I'll bet you're missing your Butler about now, huh? Steve, I just noticed your post about the picture with the people standing around the car. I believe that is my picture of the Equinox Rally Team at the end of the 2000 Starlite Rally near Las Vegas. And yes, that is the original prototype Ron Butler hardtop. Last time I talked to him, he had four rear windows left. He did not think he would make any more tops after the glass was all gone. but who knows, maybe demand has increased? Paul |

BTW, have you Butler Boys noted collectively or individually---there's three more inches of space for back-setting the engine. Soon we'll all be nearly rear-engined! Rear-engined is, however, to be avoided---it's way to Euro-effete! (Second only to "wrong-wheel drive"!):JEKYLHYDE :LOL: :LOL: |

YOU may have three more inches of space, I can barely get my hand in there to adjust the distributor. That's probably the best reason to go with the "Blue Oval" block. There's certainly not much other reason, the engines are SO similar. Paul |

...sounds like you got a Chebbie in dere! The other two Butlers I've looked over in detail have the same space around the back of the block and above the bell-housing and trannny. Dunno, sometimes I think that there are as many differences between cars as there are cars! Sorta like the real thing, if I can trust Friedman's superb book...:cool:

I always thought there was room to move it back too! Remember, it had a C6 in it at one time, so they may have made it bigger at the firewall than usual. The Tremec looks lost in there. Saw Monster's with a big block...same thing re the firewall/tunnel--lots of room. How's the frontend coming? It's gonna be night and day.;) |

Yar, the new front end will spiff things up fer sure, plus moving the rear axle as I was telling you (to avoid tire rubbing). Jerry Goddard has the exact same problem when he tries to fit 295s. I have some video of the races for you (Newfoundland Rally, Bwitish Gwand Pwee {complete with LOOOOOOOOnie Scotsman!} and a few other tid-bits---possible including me blasting around Santa Barba and Ventura Day#2 of opwnership!). I will send em along as soon as I crunch 'em togother on one tape. Same thing with the Distributor right next to the wall on one side and air cleaner on the other. Down in the tunnel the T5 does look lost - tons of room. I believe the set-up Ron intended was the SBC in front of an automatic - hence the huge tunnel. Wish I had some of that room in the cab - I have often thought what would it take to bring that tunnel down to reasonable clearance for the T5 - looks like it would be a BIG task. Maybe then I could actually heel/toe this thing without pushing in the clutch too :D

I've STILL gotta follow through on the Newfie Rally---and the Bwiddish Gwand Pwee---the image of a "wee Scot" tottering down the track with protest signs---againts the traffic (not that it matters)---whew! Plus, Davoid Hobbes trying to keep his stout-sodden spittle off the cameras during his stride by stride "commentary" on the LOOOOOOOoooooonie. Way funny.

I have some information regarding what will work in 15" rims: 15 x 10" fronts 15 x 12" rears backspacing should be 4-7/8" I know you can go a bit wider on the rear but you will need to decrease the backspacing and be careful if you have rear strut kit... |

I was looking at your photo's and saw the photo's of Mike McCluskey's place. VERY NICE GUY. We did a tour of his place after we did Edelbrock's. Was A GREAT day. Looks like by the dates we were close. I did the tour last weekend in Sept. 02. Did you see the Street 427 car in the paintbooth? Look just like our cobras:eek: Shelby mite be listing. I sent an email to 65 blur; in the meantime for any one in the Arntz/Butler suspension fix game.I need the phone number of Unique so I can talk with mourice about replacing the front MGB suspension on the Butler.
Do you all think this is the best way to go or the 67-72 Camaro parts or Wildwoods on the MG spindles? Or ? Steve |

Hey Steve,
Unique's # is (256) 546-3708 - web site is Unique Motorcars. I have has a few conversations with Maurice and given him some measurments from my Butler and he thought it would work. Personally, I am leaning toward the Hawk unit. I have talked to Ron Butler and he personally recommended it. He has used several and also said that using Chevy rotors with Wilwood calipers is the set-up. There is also the cost difference - $1400 vs $3000. And lastly, my cross member is welded to the frame, so utilizing it verses cutting it out to get the Unique unit in is a big factor.
