Garage Update # 3
Hi There,
While I was at the Nationals there has been progress, the weather was abit better in Victoria for a change :MECOOL: Side Fence line http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2216.JPG Other Fence Line http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2219.JPG Over View http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2224.JPG Where's my backyard http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2225.JPG Todays Job http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2226.JPG At 6.30am today the steel arrived...there is a bit of rain around today so they might be held up. HAPPY STIFFY |
Stiffy, have you got an area of the slab (where hoist is going) that is the required thickness?
And if so are they going to set the floor mounting bolts in the concrete or are you going to dyna bolt it down? |
Hoist
Boxhead,
the plan is for 3 x 4 posters (2 for storage and one on casters) the 2 poster will be set by dyna bolts. The slab is 150mm and 25MPA. The inspector is going there today to look at the footings (then the slab company are DOING THERE STUFF). All is under control. STIFFY |
Glad to hear that was organised, would hate to see you try to drill holes for dynabolts only to drill through the slab

Progress Finally
Guy's
The men have returned to box up and reinforce the slab. By late today it will be ready for the slab:3DSMILE::3DSMILE::3DSMILE: So if the rain holds off it will be done tomorrow, BLOODY FANTASTIC:rolleyes: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2236.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2234.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2233.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2235.JPG STIFFY |
And if you want some extra special attention to quality, don't forget those green inducement packages too!!
The standard trades rate of pay - and now it seems Bathurst has made parity on this issue too!! |
Stiff,
Its form up the slab:p Looking good - hope the rain stays away. Switch to 40MPA and you'll be right - just may need an extra labourer or two:) |
25mpa
PCC,
It is 25MPA X 150MM thick, The 2 poster is in the middle of one of the footings therefore it will be in 500mm of concrete...... SAFE..... STIFFY |
6" is fine - 2 layers of mesh?
|
I prefer 8"
PCC,
One layer of F92 plus the stuff in the footings. You seem to know a bit about concrete, are you in the game?? STIFFY |
Yep
Bit bigger pours though - 1,000 m3 not unusual |
Bl++dy Neighbours
PCC,
I had enough problems with my small garage (17m x 9m) the neighbours have been giving me HELL since I moved in,,,, or was it that I asked their daughter out:confused::confused: Either way they are pi$$ing me off....... STIFFY |
Stiffy, keep the photos coming, they're great. What are your neighbors unhappy about? Looks good to me. I'd rather have your garage next to me than a couple of gum trees. :o
Regards. |

Stiff,
I did wonder why you had the temp fencing there:( Zedn, Its not unusual to include a 2nd layer of mesh in a 150mm or thicker slab especially if there's no added fibres in the concrete mix. Yes I am used to the bigger stuff, but similar principles apply. Stiff, Good tidy job mate! |
plastic shrinkage cracking should be minimal in a 25mpa slab, especially in Melbourne. You are correct that it is not unusual to include a top layer of steel, but that is typical in suspended applications. Top steel is generally designed as per AS3600 where required in tensile zones that exist due to max moments in the top fibres near walls, columns, piles etc. It is also used sometimes to assist with tying stirrups for shear reinforcement and as you say control cracking due to early age, plastic cracks etc.
Sorry for getting technical, i am a civil engineer with a sub major in rehabilitation of concrete structures. I kind of get excited by concrete :o |
