FFR Forum - possible GP attendance

Folks

I look at the factory five forum with some regularity and have noticed a thread that discusses the possible attendance of their challenge series cars as a support category at the 2010 melbourne GP.

I presume these are the cobra race replica's like Python racing and others run. Can anyone confirm this?

The talk is about 30 cars coming from the States.

Now wouldn't that be something to see, a complete race grid of cobras.

I better start smoozing the right contacts to see if I can get a Corporate invite into the right box, if this is true!

Cheers

Slowy, do you have the link? I might be tempted to go to the GP if this eventuates.

stephen low 12-01-2009 04:53 PM

Paul

It's exactly how I felt and why I wrote this thread. Will definitely have to organise a group if it comes off.

Not great with the linking so tell me if this link doesn't work please.

Links is good mate. Although I'm a member of that forum and I think if you're not, it might ask you to register.

Edit: whoops I just realised I'll be on my honeymoon (spending Cobra dollars).

spookypt 12-01-2009 05:27 PM

Steve, there is truth to this. I have been in regular contact with another prominent OS Cobra Manufacture who wants to run thsi event if the deal comes off also....

Can't say much at this stage! :-)

stephen low 12-01-2009 05:38 PM

Spook

Are these cars cobra race replicas though or some other shape?

That's what I wasn't clear on but am guessing they are cobras.

Can you confirm that?

spookypt 12-01-2009 05:55 PM

Mate they are Challenge Series Cobras. Run under N.A.S.A. rules.. Stock 5.0 Mustang motor etc etc. Bit like an homologenated class like Mini's etc...

As per your link there is some discussion in running several classes within the group as Australian Cars may also be entered under Sports Car 2b Log booked etc like Pythons and Gary Walthers etc.

Spookypt.

stephen low 12-01-2009 06:02 PM

bring it on then....

Cool

Though I did read words in their forum about 800HP monsters, that would be something.

I hope it all works out then.

Oh and of course you're going to need cobra club grid cars for the parade lap.

Now I really have an incentive to be rolling by March!

Cheers

F1 gp

SLOWLY,

I have been a regular to the event, the current cheapest corporate is $1400.00 including all the food & piss.

Let me know if you are going as past corporate companies get preference...

Having to do it tuff...........

Stiff

Sadly our owner might be part Scot as the company doesn't formally do these sort of events.

I meant I'd have to find the right sponsor to get an invite. Last time I went was care of Veolia, and in my current role they are now the opposition, so can't get a berth there.

Though the all day bourbons went down vey nicely, as did the company -

My host for that day was Pierre with that typical outrageous Frenchy accent and the Veolia boys knew how to drink.

But TPI is big and ugly enough to have its fingers everywhere so I need to find a gig.

Unless of course the club can arrange to have our cars used in parade support or similar, then I've got some building to do!!

Talk more tonight at the meeting.

Cheers

So these US cars are all Fords? Won't that limit CCC attendance?

Would love to if this all pans out, still waiting for details. Most of Spec Racers run ~225-230bhp and ~280-300 ft lbs and the weight is about 2400 fully loaded with driver.

boxhead 12-02-2009 04:22 PM

How about they get here 1 week early and attend ShelbyFest at Winton.

Nationals are not until October, I can not see people leaving Cobra's for 6 months, but 1 week is doable.

spookypt 12-02-2009 04:46 PM

Or make the Nats a week later?
