Scratch build
Gday all, I am in Perth and am starting to get a thought in my head of building a 427 Cobra. Can anyone suggest a quality supplier of drawings to achieve my task?
I want to scratch build.

http://www.cobrarestorers.com
has some prints to get you going if you want to do an original style build. There are some bad numbers and no suspension detail but they will get you most of the way there.

G'day Horndog,
Suggest you log onto the NSW Cobra Club web site at cobracarclubnsw.org.au and click onto the 'About Cobra' link then select Australian Replicas. It lists all the Cobra Kit Car manufacturers in Australia. There are two contacts listed in Perth namely G Force and RMC.
Good luck,
Baz

Sorry Oz, but I thought that a 'Scratch Build' was building a 'Cobra Kit Car' from scratch, just like the majority of us did. Excuse my ignorance, but I've never heard of the term 'Scratch Build' before.
Without being too critical, could you enlighten me on what the term actually refers to?

Baz - 'scratch build' means you build the entire car from scratch by yourself. Personally I don't know why you would... chassis/body kits just make so much sense to me and aren't that expensive. But kudos to horndog if he goes that way. Surely you'd have to at least buy the body shell off someone?

Hi Horndog
Good luck with the project
Deffinetly check with engineers over there to see what your requirements are.
We have scratch built 1959 ferrari 250 testarossa replica,s and it is a massive undertaking. But ours where for customers in USA and where going to be track driven so no rego requirements. Ally body takes a bloody long time even with english wheel etc.
Looking forward to seeing you progrees
regards
Paul

My understanding of a scratch build is you start at this point...
I'm not clever enough to do that, also impatient. I'd suggest talking to G Force and RMC here in Perth to have a look at their chassis' to get a feel for what's involved...

Don't let them get to you!!!!!
Look I may know a thing or two about building one of these from scratch. I didn't even use plans. If you have the talent or Iron will required to undertake this task them you have already made that decision. Yes find out the legalities before starting it may give you a few large flaming hoops to jump through. If then it seams that you can't get away with it build a kit.
OH buy the way you really start with this.....
check out my gallery for inspiration,
Patrick

Very impressive Patrick. That really sorts out those really 'talented' in such things from the rest of us. The drawings in Mr Bruce's site also seem valuable for those seeking originality.

I fully agree! Very impressive Fasterpatrick. One has to recognise real engineering ability like that. Great gallery.
