If that thing starts moving because the castors are not locked, it will demolish down town Sunbury, slaughtering all in its path !!
Nice Job Mike Cheers Chris L |
Just a quick update. The fabrication bench is pretty much finished. I've just got to give it a 2nd coat of paint. Unfortunately due to a bit of a miscalculation the top isn't quite how I wanted it. Silly me figured standard dimensions on full sheets of steel would be the same as the sheets of aluminium I've been buying in the past. A sheet of Aluminium is slightly over 1200x2400 where as steel seems to be bang on. This just meant I had to stitch an extra piece on the end of the bench. Still it won't affect how it works.
This thing is seriously solid :o http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1379485653 Cheers |
Now THAT is a f%#&ing workbench!
Love it... Shipping to Tassie might be an issue for my order though!;) Tony http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1379485653 |
A Bench
Hey Mike,
Now that is a bench . How thick is the top plate of the bench Well done anyway Cheers Brad |
The top is 12mm thick. It was an interesting job lifting the sheet off the trailer and onto the frame.

Mike
Looks great! Just a couple of questions. What did you use to paint the floor? ... and where are all your tools - so tidy!! Geof |
I only take pics of the tidy parts. The rest of the shed looks like a bomb has gone off :o I'm trying to make myself more organized but it is a slow process.
The floor is a 2pack epoxy from PPG called amerlock 2K. I'm very impressed with how it's holding up. I've only done 1/4 of the shed floor as its pretty pricey. I'm now clearing out other sections so I can paint them as I line the walls. Cheers |
It's school holidays so I had my helper out in the shed with me today. We got a heap done. Lauren had a great time helping Dad in the shed.
We finished the wall panelling with 19mm flooring and one bay of dado panelling. The new lights are in and working and make a huge difference. Tomorrow we should get the rest of the dado finished and hopefully stained to match. http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7dbed532.jpg Cheers |
That looks like accommodation quarters to me Mike..........not a workshop!!. Flash, and nicely done as per usual.
Cheers Chris L |
Finished up the wall and painted the floor. I used PPG Amerlock 2K again. Paint spot in Footscray have it on special at the moment $408 for a 20L kit.

Looks freeking awesome mike. The whiteboard is a must have.
Very very envious. I noticed opening missing... My car getting a T56 mid shift conversion...... Soon. |
Happy to do a mid-shift conversion any time you are ready.
Cheers |
That looks fantastic Mike!
I hope mine comes out that smooth after two coats. How did you get the edges so neat? roller or brush? Ben |
I put the skirting boards on after paint so didn't have to worry so much. For the other spots I ran a strip of masking tape around. It works pretty good but can be a bugger to get of clean as the paint film is quite thick and strong.
I used a brush for the edges and corners and did the rest with a roller. Cheers |
Your shed looks great, I'm getting a few ideas for my own man cave : )

Starting to move things in now. The Cobra is in prime position to encourage me to get back into it.
http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1381484653 I also set up a flammables cabinet. I had paints and oils in boxes all over the shed. I also have fuel jerry cans for the mower and tractor. I thought it was time to put them away somewhere safe (especially with all the welding and grinding I do). I had a couple of old brown built cabinets I picked up years ago. They had lots of little compartments in them so a bit of a pain to store anything other than small parts. I grabbed one and knocked out half the shelves and all the partitions and added some bracing to the remaining shelves. A coat of red paint and it's turned out pretty good. I'm just on the lookout for some flammable warning decals to put on the doors. http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1381484656 Cheers |
mate I can make you a few flammable materials stickers if you like I have my own vinyl cutter here at home for doing our race cars with.
cheers dean |
