A bloke needs a shed

Hi All,

We moved house over Christmas - New Year. We moved further out of the city as we like the quiet. The new place has plenty of space but I didn't have a workshop to mess around in. I'm still working in the shed at the old house while we fix it up to sell.

It's taken a while but I finally got my permits all sorted and the new shed is under way. I had the block leveled and cleared a couple of weeks back and yesterday the guys turned up to dig and concrete in the footings. The frame was also delivered.

It's good to see things finally starting to happen.

Cheers

Aussie,

Thats going to make mine look like an OUTHOUSE.......

Thanks Mike........:LOL::LOL::LOL:

P.S. Is yours having a bar???

Zedn 04-29-2010 01:29 AM

Jesus, when did this turn into a forum about shed bragging??

Just kidding. I am jealous too!

Aussie Mike 04-29-2010 01:35 AM

Not sure about a bar yet Stiffy but there is a possibility.

When I built the shed at my old house it measred 6 meters deep by 9 meters wide. Years later I extended it to 9x9. I've collected a fair ammount of crap over the years and I figure I'll probably collect more. I didn't want te be building and then exteding later so I figured I'd do it right once. The new shed measures 12x16. The plan is to partition off a section for the machine shop so I don't have swarf and mess from one end of the shed to the other. It's a clean sheet of paper and I can set it out so it's easy to keep organized and tidy.

I've been walking round trying to visualize it. The builders reckon they will be back on Friday to put the frame up. I reckon the scale of the thing will sink in then.

Cheers

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I'm bragging. I'be just been enjoying reading about Stiffy's shed coming together and thought I'd share.

I've been in stiffy's new shed and it's very impressive.

Cheers

Mike, is that a one or two bedroom shed? ;)

Modena 04-29-2010 05:21 AM

I read about this the other day in the paper, it's a new suburb called "Mikedom", postcode 427

:D

Yeah, and I was gonna ring the Council and tell 'em that this Aussie Mike dude was setting up a 24/7 industrial fitting and turning workshop right in the middle of suburbia and he will pi$$ off all the neighbours.

Then I heard about Mikedom and thought Mike was prolly the local Mayor.;)

Wow Mike,

First my friend Turk moves to Florida and builds a huge garage for his toys and now you are throwing up a "Shed" that will be the envy of Aussies and Yanks alike. Way to go. I just need to clean and organize mine after project overflow.

The footings all have studs.... for posts ? Does that mean there are posts through the middle of the shed ?
Is it going to be one of those barn style sheds ?

Philm 04-29-2010 06:08 AM

Looking good Mike.

I bet you are excited, what is the first project?

Yep, it's an American raised barn style. I've always liked the look of them and figured it'll look a whole lot nicer than a regular portal shed. The only downside is the posts inside but they are plenty far enough apart with 4M wide bays. Plus they will be handy for attaching power points and air lines too rather than having them all on the walls.

Phil, The first project will be to get the Cobra bodywork finished and back on the road.

Cheers

Hi Clois, Where we live they are all 1 and 2 acre blocks of land and many with big sheds on them. This one will probably be about average size for the area. The guy across the road from me keeps a Kenworth tipper truck and trailer parked in his. His shed is about 11M wide by 22M long. There are a few sheds here with trucks parked in them and I think the bigger house blocks are popular with owner drivers and builders/contractors. I was a bit concerned at first about the potential for noise but everyone is very considerate. The guy across the road fires up and leaves about 6:30AM in the morning but I very rarely hear him go.

Cheers

Have an Erection party once you are ready to start. That should get you a fair amount of help! :) It's looking as though you planned yours out a little better than I did. My side garage is only 28' X 22"

Gav 04-29-2010 05:42 PM

Mike has an erection party every morning!

Isn't that what the Japanese do when they vote in a new Prime Minister?

Aussie Mike 04-29-2010 06:10 PM

The guys were back bright and early this morning and had half the columns up by the time I left for work. I have to say I'm impressed with them so far. They turn up when they say they will and they seem to know what they are doing.

They are only working a half day today since it's POETS day. I'm looking forward to seeing how much they got done tonight when I get home.

Cheers
