Hey Stiffy,

Book me 1st class back from Ru De Vaurgirard, Paris and I'm yours for a day - labour only though..

Mmmm, maybe Business class will do - as it will get me out of the Galleria Layfayette Shopping Centre in Mont Parnesse. Shopping bag carrying for Anne..

Always had a lean towards being a bagboy..

Hope you get some help...

I have had enough over here shopping and shopping followed by shopping..

Sounds innocent enough right.....?

Turns out that the 'boat' is about 25 feet long and was built in 1906 when they used cast iron instead of wood.

Damn that is one heavy lump o timber

Stiffy decided to use the hoist to lift the boat on its side then tip it over

What could possibly go wrong

here the boat is on its side and Stiffy and Graham are about to let it down

but first peter decides to re-wire the safety light

against the odds the boat makes it onto the trolley and can be rolled about

some sections are showing their age...(unlike the rest of us)

I have vague recollection from my childhood where my father wouldn't let me near the paint he was putting on the bottom of his timber boat - he called it 'Red Lead'
http://www.environment.gov.au/atmosp...inepaints.html

this activity was promptly abandoned...

Stiffy put on beer and and a barbie

Unfortunately I had to go pick up my son on what was shaping up to be a top afternoon

I love those old boats with the 'chug' 'chug' engines! Ideal for fishing the creeks. My grandfather had a small fleet of them he used to hire out. The went forever. Needs lots of Bostic and copper nails as I recall.

Why pollute a good boat with a bowtie motor?

Default Boats

Hey Stiffy you know why they call em boats don't you? BOAT stands for Bring Out Another Thousand.... I too grew up in a hire boat business and you would be pretty safe sanding off the bottom without a mask as red lead was only used above the waterline and inside. Getting rid of the paint on the rest of the boat was generally done with a blow torch and scraper, none of these new fangled orbital or belt sanders. Antifouling doesn't stick to red lead, actually it doesn't stick to much except its own primer. Things may have changed though as its been 40 years since I was a kid in a boatshed. Yes plenty of copper nails and rivets too, used to use the old style clothes iron as a dolly. Well it was old style 40 years ago, they're probably classified by the national trust now. Should come up nice.

cheers
