heat sound insulation
has anyone had any experience with this stuff from ez cool insulation ?
http://www.lobucrod.com/ Like all this type of stuff it reads well, and there is a testimonial from a bloke in Adelaide as well so.......... Rog |
I dont know about that stuff, but i do know that the Dynamat is used by the majority of Hot rod and custom builders. That has to be some indication of its quality.

Just about to put the Dynamat link on here as well, and I see that it's already done.
Ebay (Australia) has what seems to be some good deals on Dynamat.. http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_...All-Categories I'm also about to get some for the new car...I'm thinking I might go for the BIG sheets of the stuff...seems you can get PLENTY for $400. It's off to paint next week, so it's nearly time for the soundproofing to be done, prior to interior fitting. Cheers, Warren. |
I used an American product called Lizard Skin.
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...6MVC-006S1.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...26DSCF0125.jpg You spray it on in thin layers until it reaches the thickness of a credit card, and everything washes out in water. You need to use a certain type of spray gun to apply it because it's so thick. Iv'e got the gun if you go down this road. Regards. |
I used Dynamat and it is really cool.
There was an earlier/older thread: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...ght=insulation |
Dynamat
Rog,
I have used Dynamat and a product called HEI Insulation. I picked it up from Summit with the Dynamat. I used 5 sheets of 1m x 1m stick on heat shield ( just enough ) and two large boxes of Dynamat. I went over board with both as the car was BLOODY HOT to drive. I also insulated under the tunnel with another HEI HI TEMP product ( 1700 DEG HEAT WITH 450 DEG SELF ADHESIVE GLUE ) very expensive ( $280 just to do the tunnel :MECOOL: ) the Dynamat and HEI product delivered was around $600 from memory. I also had the best heat resistant underlay installed AND carpet. I HPC coated the entire exhaust system. Did it work????? As I type the car is gettting the A/C gassed and working correctly for my trip to Tassie next Month:eek::eek:..... It certainly did help, dont know by how much but I can say I didn't leave any thing to chance. Its just a hot car to drive, probably similar to a GT40. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../DSCF25501.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2551.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCF2554.JPG STIFFY |
dynamat gets my vote
|
I'm assuming Dynamat is better for flat surfaces or is it fairly mouldable to curves?
If not what product would be good for curved and complex surfaces? I too am contemplating cockpit floor insulation and also perhaps rear wall for both heat and noise. Cheers |
Any of these products ( Dynamat and similar ) are a fairly flexible thin sheet with a very sticky peel off backing.
You can use a small roller to press it into most shapes. Cheers, Warren. |
I have heard that on Harrisons that heat insulation is hardly needed. I sued it for sound deadening as well and also put sound insulation in the doors.

I used a product called Resomat available from Tru-fit Auto Carpets in Dandenong. It comes in 3mm or 5mm thickness, 500 x 500mm self adhesive squares @ $12.00 each. Quite heavy, bituminous, aluminium sided for heat and sound deadening. Really easy to apply, sticks fine after you use a good thinner type cleaner first. Can't vouch for it yet as car's yet to run. I have also HP coated extractors. Greg www.clubcobra.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/72438/ppuser/29710[/IMG] |

Thanks Greg, I most likely will be in your area sometime next month, would like to call in and see how the project is progressing if possible
|
Sure Roger, you're most welcome to drop in.
The car will probably be with the trimmer (if he doesn't put me off again) who is only a few km from me. I'll PM you my email and ph #. Just let me know when you're around |
Speaking of sound deading, what do you all do in your wheel arches?
Between the sound and stones flicking up from the tyres how do you protect yourselves? --JC |
I've got a few sheets of self adhesive rubber based sheet that the local auto paint supplier has. I've yet to try and stick it on.........looks like a fiddly job trying to get the curves right and gluing it up there.
Has anyone actually got any damage from stone strikes? |
Thanks Greg, I'll call when I get closer to when I'm in the area ok
Thanks again rog |
