2 kirkhams being built in perth
just returned from a 2 week holiday in perth visiting my brother in law, its been 30 years since ive been there, and being an rmc owner i thought i would give the rmc workshop a call for a visit and they said come on down. frig i was happy i made that call, when i walked in the front door there is 2 kirkhams being built from rolling chassis imported from the us. one is polished alloy body with brushed stripes and the other is a brushed body with polished stripes, very very nice, the polished one was up on the gig for torsion testing and they still have a way to go. they will be powered up with the latest 5.0ltr and a 4.6ltr mustang engines which thay say will comply. they will be for sale in the 200k to 220k range. the fabrication and billet alloy work is something to admire and you can see where the moneys spent.they are rhd. ive been delaying putting this post up as ive got a lot of photos and i know you will want to see them but im hopeless at posting photos and preety busy at present. i just wanted to let you all know about them as i hadnt heard of them under construction. regards tomcat

Kirkhams you say ?
No big deal !!! |
Tomcat, I was wondering when these would surface.
They have been in Oz for a while ... Just RMC has done little with them. See old 2006 link here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...ht=rmc+kirkham |

...... at present I'd put Mando's Glass beauty up against a Kirkham regardless of the billet add-ons they have..... just goes to show what can be done by an individual and the finish one can achieve with 100+k still in your pocket...and it's still not finished... As everyone has said Mando "You are the new Benchmark for Aust.Cobra builds". OZ |

Kirkham have a nice price sheet you can build your car with. I ticked the boxes for a basic 427, brushed with stripes and fitted with a 5 speed tremec and aluminium 427. Came to about $100K USD.
Using the Australian Customs guidelines for importing cars http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4371.asp I figured this car would cost about $165K AUD to land here based on the $AUD being worth about US90cents. This includes GST, Customs Duty of 10% and LCT, plus about $6K to ship. I'm not planning to buy one, but are there any massive holes in this calculation? |
Hey Rch,
Long time no speak! No matter how you look at it, importing one is now impossible with the revised import laws! Too bad, the price difference between purchasing one here and purchasing one from USA is huge! DAMN! Stef |

165K AUD is for a basic RAW car. You cannot ship these cars the conventional way, the salt and condensation will kill it. Add all the extra bits and sorting out, then you have a car thats nearly impossible to register in OZ without serious money thrown at it , and even then it will be comprimised. For 220k Aus RMC might be asking is good value if it looks and performs like a Kirkham should. Soul. |
import
Soulman, if you want to know the exact nuts and bolts of importing cars contact Deborah at AUSTORIENT vehicle imports in Melbourne. They specialise in race cars and high end cars like Ferrairi and Lambo's. And cobras!
If you can't find any contact details pm me and I'll send them to you.... SpookyPT |

750hp... will be ALOT more being a modern car worth big $'s. Luxury car tax, duty and GST plus shupping costs...... HUGE BUCKS!
The 1965 date of manufacture loophole on modern cobras days are gooooooooooooooooooone! |
I was in Perth last year and visited the RMC workshop. RMC will import them for you(ADR compliant). I was told the cost of the kits were as per the Kirkham website plus frieght and whatever the Australian government charges are. So you would think that it would cost somewhere upwards toward $200K completed.

Yep Spook I know of the dramas in trying to get a Cobra over here. Otherwise a beautiful, period style 427 S/O ERA that was for sale recently would be here now...
My $3800 amount was just the shipping to Long Beach then across the pond. |
