Ultima
Anyone here got an Ultima?
I have been looking at them for awhile now and may take the plunge while the dollar is good against the pound. Ultima's are a proven performer and I like the LS / G50 combo. Their pricing is good aswell. |
Nope, but I'd have an RCR SL-C in a hearbeat:

Can't afford an SLC.

Quite an impressive track record if you read all the way to the bottom.
http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/Content.aspx?f=history5 I wonder how you'd go with torsion and beam testing? I've heard that various US-sourced Cobra kits have problems in this area. |
There was definately someone that popped up here a while back who was building an Ultima - I think he might have been down Canberra way.
Awesome car, but I would go for the RCR over one. Surely there is not much difference in overall price, and it would be good to have Aussie support. Ben |

I can try and track him down if you like. |
A friend of mine has one and I LOVE it! Would really like to have one set up as a track car! Great fit and finish and drives incredible!

the engineering on the ultima is second to none, and it does ofcourse hold a number of world speed records.
the gelcoat is the best I have ever seen - not a blemish, looks like paint. they also have a healthy export wing. id suggest you give them a call to discuss. |
That's what attracted me to the Ultima. It's proven and when I have an 'Off' I want a steel chassis. Ultima have been around a long time. I've found one locally so will go and see it. I have a few friends that are also interested so we may do a bulk buy.
The other thing I like about Ultima is you can buy any stage of the kit you like. I'll get the basics first then buy more as I can afford it. 20k Australian buys you a basic roller. I source most of my own parts as kit supplier stuff is never really what you want. I can't see any rego issues with the Ultima and I'll torsion test it if required ( I have the equipement available to test any chassis). The Brits build the best kitcars in the world IMHO and the best fibreglass. Hopefully I fit in one. |
Definitly a go fast car -- talk to PR at DRB sports cars, as he used to build them including the one that Dick Johnson drove at the targa Tas. about 10 years ago
|
That's good news...Thank you. Will send him an email.

Apparently he was trying to avoid a large rock in the middle of the road..:LOL: ..FLASHBACK DICKY???:D:D |
That's the yellow car that back flipped open because he forgot to do up the clips??
I don't think he had any success with it. |

Ultima GTR 640 - kit-to-car build in six minutes....enjoy....:D

Looks very good Dave, but I reckon the RCR SLC is a safer bet in our highly regulated market maybe. That linkage to the gearbox on the Ultima looks a bit 'cack-handed', as my grand dad used to say. The finish of the 'glass looks exceptional.

If I'm silly enough to launch into a 2nd car build the Ultima has been my choice for a long time.
But I'll continue to finish off the first build first. One thing at a time. SWMBO would strangle me if all these expensive boxes started to turn up at home from the UK. Good luck in your hunt. |
RCR looks nice, but I want a proven track day car. Apart from that I'm guessing with the dollar slide that the SLC just went up by 20-30%.
It's out of my price range. I think the Ultima is going to be an Easy car to register ( I hear there are few on the road already) and with the steel chassis any mods I want to make can be easily done at home. My biggest problem I have now is deciding bewteen Spyder or Coupe??? |
Love the Ultima. I would seriously consider building one of them.
LSx motor and G50 box in the back and it would be seriously quick. Add a pair of turbos later when you want to really scare yourself. If you get some details on how much it would cost to import a kit I'd be keen to know. Cheers |
Mike there is a Guy in Vic that is the agent, he sent me a spread sheet with some costings. Send me a PM with your email addy and I'll forward it to you.
