Can of worms no: 3
Is something happening with kitcars that we don' know about??? I read this add on carsales recently...
Add:
http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars...obra&trecs=101
This was the the bit that I found errr.....interesting@!
"""""""""The customer wants to sell ASAP, so any reasonable offer will be considered.
NOTE: the kit car industry is on life support and it will soon have the plug pulled, this means that any kit built, finished or registered will be worth more before the gov brings in new regs in the new year (electronic stability control, lane change, braking, abs, and VSB14) this is just a few things that we will need to contend with.
So if you are looking at building or purchasing one, do it now!! The price of cobras, GT40’s, Daytona’s, etc will sky rocket over the next few years. Why? If you can’t build it you can’t own it, simple. """"""""
Hmmm!

I wouldn't take it too seriously:
" ... for fill there dream.." (I think they mean "fulfill their dream") and "emeses' (meaning vomit! Not sure what they mean there?)

Yep, its the RC Bloke discussed in the kit poll thread.
He had a comment on all his ads on ebay for a while that he could no longer produce kits because of VSB 14. Out of interest i emailed him to see what the hell he was talking about (I didnt think VSB14 was new). Turns out it was the chassis testing that he was concerned with. At the time i emailed him, he was having the testing done. Apparently it passed no worries.
Pretty sure thats the same Torsion and Beaming test that has been in place for quite a long time (well in NSW).
I do agree that ESC is an issue, but thats a whole other thread. I think we have to wait till that comes in and then rally for exemptions if they arnt granted.
I think that if any rules did actually come to stop rego then we would see a lot more movement from the manufacturers and we could all get behind them.
Liam.

It looks like there could be a move from 4000Nm requirement to 6000Nm requirement for chassis torsion tests with the new regulations that are being negotiated. So that may affect some kits. The new regulations are just trying to standardise the ICV requirements Australia wide. I'm sure that is what Dave has heard whispers on. I know one of the engineers that are consultants on the project. Any kit that has been registered in QLD has had to meet the 6000Nm requirement for a very long time. But like everything, nothing is set in concrete and these changes could still be some time off or never get implemented.
As far as I know, no engineer has been officially notified of any of the other changes. They get very early warning of any major changes. In my opinion until that notification happens we have nothing to fight. Also don't underestimate the engineers, they will go into bat for us, they have done so before, it is their livelihood that is on the line after all.

They actually take your cars and twist them to see if they meet torsional requirements?
