Baz, i do not envy your position but having just registered my car i can relate to your situation. It took about 13 weeks for vic roads to even look at my application, then they sent a list of corrections. After fixing these faults it took a further 7-8 weeks for them to take another look. They may have picked on the most irrelevant things in my opinion which left me very disheartened and angry but they make the rules.I would often feel like getting on this forum and giving spray but if certain eyes are watching the only people who will be hurt would be us builders,i have also heard that ringing these inspectors will only slow down your process.Personally i would just wait for them to come back to you.

Smile and say yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir.
When dealing with morons, it usually easier to follow their pathetic wishes, smile and then walk away and tell your freinds what a bunch of tossers they where. They are following the rules to the letter, and it looks like you have no choice but to play their game too. He who laughs last, laughs the longest Baz. |
Hate to say it Baz but if you are aware these RTA fellas read the forums, then you probably aren't doing yourself any favours here.
At the end of the day - what they say goes for now. I myself am very worried about getting my car done - should have puled my finger out a while ago, but unfortunately other issues have gotten in the way. When it come to the time I will do what I have to without complaint. (Yes Sir, No sir, three bags full as Gav said) Why? Because whinging, complaining, bagging on a public forum will just make them get their back up even more. If I was sitting in my office going through a report on a Friday afternoon, and the "client" called and were bugging me about it (after I had said I would call them), I would probably call it quits for the day, have a 90 minute smoko, and put it back to the bottom of the pile. Also, putting the engineers head on the "chopping block" could just drive another engineer out of this business - as they are dropping like flies by the looks of things, probably not what we need right now. Baz I do feel your pain, and I feel really sorry for you in that your dream is being delayed even further. But it will happen, and when it does, this will all be a distant bad memory (and make your car worth even more). Cheers :) Also, To whom it may concern, I do love the RTA - (mine is the fake aluminium fake one that is coming up for engineering soon hopefully), and I recognise you guys are just doing your job, are not out to get me, are not jealous or *****y, and only want cars that pass the relevant standard on the road. :):) |

There's another issue with the engineers as well. They are required to take out insurance against whatever. This particular insurance costs them $5 grand plus a year. So many are throwing in their jobs as it'is just too much to pay.

I'm sick of worrying about this issue and decided last Friday that this is exactly what I am going to do. I was hoping to have the car registered before 1st July, this year as I go into hospital then to have the first of two knees replaced. Providing everything goes alright, there's no driving for 6 weeks and a re-coup period of about 3 months. Then I will have my other knee done. On my calculations, I won't be getting the car registered now until 2011. By that time, there should be some new ADR's which I will have to comply with, but who cares. I'll just do incorparate them into the list of things to do. I've been waiting 45 years for this car. What's another 6 months. Baz |
Good personal attitude Baz. The only productive one. I think we will all celebrate with you!
|
wow why would any one want to build one of these icv's i wish this thread had been here before i started mine, but now its too late and we will have to comply with what ever they want , i'm with andrew on this one as they are the be all,end all and thats life, anyway baz if you need seats i can lend you a set of 2008 wrx seats they fit in my drb ok and you are welcome to use them when and if you need , keep your chin up mate im next with my previous engineer pulling out now have found another one willing to take it on, or possibly he has balls, something the last one lacked so wish me luck cheers

There are people on this Forum who are more concerned of the damage this Thread will cause to them and their previously registered cars than the good it does informing those who are currently building a car and/or are trying to get it registered. My aim is to inform those in the latter category of what faces them. I had nothing to go on and didn't receive any help in that regard either. I would love to have had a document of 'Intent to build an ICV' with a life span of about 4 years, at the beginning of the process, signed by myself and the RTA, outlining the exact ADR's applicable, and an undertaking that any amendments to ADR's would not apply during that 4 year time span. You have a PM. Baz |
Baz,
That is precisly why the Vic system is good. The car is recognised as being as old as the build date of the chassis and not the date it is registered, as is the case in NSW. At least then you know what ADR's you need to comply with, and can then formulate a plan on how you will tackle them. Not that it helps you any... |
And why the NT system is so good, Before you start you put your proposal in to the MVR with everything listed - and seek approval, once approved you must meet ADR's for the time of approval on the paperwork, Ie mine was dated 2004.
There is a guy in town building a GT40, has been building it for many years, he submitted his paperwork back when it was ok to register with carbies and not run LPG (he has 4 webbers fitted) |

You had better start saving for the postage and freight now Baz, as the cost of your sending out all those beers to us to join in celebration with you could be high!

Baz, keep positive and keep us informed on the "progress" .... I know that the issues with NSW rego/engineering did cause concern for a few who were interested to buy my QLD Rego'd car and in the end it did stop one fellow from NSW definately buying it.
Twood seem, very lucky for him after reading what you're going through... I really respect ya patience and determination Baz to somehow get through the red tape and refrain from committing hairy carey when you see a blown T bucket with no brakes go fanging passed you on the highway with no rollover protection...!! Whats wrong with the world!!!! Argh... Stay + Baz... SpookyPT |
chin up Baz. I see you have a slushbox, so get your right knee done first while you fix the defect list ;)

I am so glad we don't have such stringent rules for registration here in the U.S. I really admire Baz and all of you for having unbelievable patients on going through such a horrid situation. I see nothing wrong with the government trying to make sure these cars are as safe as they can be but to make it near impossible to register is not fair . All privately assembled vehicles should have to comply. Why are street rods different?
It appears this situation is not going to get any better. Your government allows for too much bureaucracy with no certain rules for the car builder to follow. OZCobra pointed out a couple of those bureaucrats had the nerve to come onto this forum and post. If they have time to come here and do that then that in itself shows how screwed up things are that they are pretty much freehanded to screw with whomever. You guys need one good politician that likes these cars and would be willing to fight on your behalf. Get some solid rules down so the target doesn't keep moving around. I have said it before here on this forum that you need to organize as a group. Something like our SEMA. By doing this indicates to the government that you are a force to deal with. All companies that are automotive related should join. This shows how business is supported by these hobbies. By stifling the hobby it has a direct reflection on the automotive business. This hurts jobs and the economy. These things the politicians understand. Until someone takes the bull by the horns then you will be looking at the end of your hobby in a short distant future. I truly hope this gets better for Australia. Some of the best ideas and great products come from OZ. My GT is practically all Australian and it shows the the great engineering that comes from there. I don't like sounding like a sticky beak but I hate to see stuff like this regardless of what country it's in. Hersh:) |
