Sealing a fuel tank
Not Cobra related directly but figured I would ask.
While tidying up the yard and using the brush cutter, I sat it down while replacing the nylon blades on the quick change head, when I sat it upright again I noticed a fuel leak. The plastic tank has gone brittle and has alot of crazed cracks through it and 1 leak. I have contacted Makita regarding a new tank but suspect they will tell me no parts available as it is outdated model. I would prefer to keep it as it is in really good nick apart from the old fuel tank. I recently had it apart and the piston and bores are near perfect, it starts and runs beter than any others I have had. So if I can not get a tank is there a product I can use to seal the tank with? I would prefer something clear but would use something not clear if it will work, flexable would be good. I am guessing it would be something that is a 2 part sealer, mix together and pour into tank, move it around to coat all surfaces and pour out excess fluid. Thanks for any tips. |
Check out the POR15 website, they have a fuel tank repair product for motor bikes, i think its for metal but it may be worth reading it.

Zedn, I have emailed POR and awaiting there reply.
Victor, I will stop in at Supercheap tomorrow, and see what they have. Thanks for the quck suggestons. |
Looking at the instructions on the website, it says 'instructions for metal tank only' then there is an asterix that says call about other types of tanks.
Not sure if you saw that. |

PPC is close to me. I have been there a couple of times and found them to be really helpful. Im sure if you gave the guy a call on Tues he would be able to help you. If you have any trouble let me know. I drive past it every day on the way to work, im happy to drop in and check it out for you. |

Hey Dave
When you were leaving on your car hunting trip the other day I noticed your front yard had a very greenish tinge to it and appeared almost overgrown! Now I know why. Doesn't look like you'll be sending any more of your front yard over this way for a while. |
That reminds me!
Boxhead. DO NOT CUT YOUR GRASS!!! I am still cleaning up from the last dust storm. I cant believe i was trying to help your lawn mowing cause. |
LOL, yes we have had a very wet year so far, I can not believe it is only June and I am mowing for the second time this year (once a year is normally enough). I dont know where to look for official numbers, but think we have already had 2 - 3 times the amount of rain in 2010 as opposed to 2009.

Had the same problem with my Kubota brush cutter, awesome machine but the fuel tank cracked. I chased everywhere on the phone for a replacment tank but no luck. I took it to a couple of mower shops and found one that was exactly the same from I think a Sthill.
