Unhappy Nationals-SuperSprint

Ok it must be time for the annual debate on the format of the sprints. There are two things which bug me and I am sure I am not alone

Having groups which are colours is highly confusing. If the groups are numbers or letters you know where your group is relative to when you need to go to the dummy grid and how many groups are before you, on the track etc. Call me dumb but I know group 3 is after after group 2 and before group 4 Who knows if yellow is before blue or after brown

Secondly I think running consective runs detracts from the fun, is very hard on cars and is no faster than running all groups one after each other You have no time to adjust tyre pressures or other minor adjustments if you do multiple runs. At Shelby Fest this year running two runs cooked several engines and blew headgaskets as well as tempers

Look forward to your views

HI Snaken,
A debate on the format for the sprints is welcome but much of what you ask is already in place.

1. Please refer to the regs http://www.cobracarclubnsw.org.au/us...uly%2010v1.pdf and you will see that groups are numbers not colours and for the friday practice there are 3 groups, Novice, intermediate and Advanced.

2. I think we have a good comprimise of 2 runs per session, this is a good balance of getting the cars thru and allowing a break for "tuning" and cooling. Wakefiled is shorter than Winton and 2 runs of 3 flying laps should not push cars over the edge.

Some numbers, 100 entrants= 12 groups of 8/9

12 groups x 4 runs = 48 runs

3 x flying laps 4.5 mins, time allowed to get overy one thru 8.75min per run.

It is quicker to run 2 runs per session as any delay waiting for cars to assemble in the dummy grid would jeopardise the 4 run format.

With over 100entrants it is the clubs intension to get thru 2 sessions of 2 runs of sprints on Sunday, typically only 3 were offered.

Phil

2 runs per session =

1st session warm up everything nice and sticky.....suss grip and who's on track, getting pecking order correct...

then

2nd session .....go hard......

Not that its a competition or anything...!

Thanks for the clarification Phil.

The Sub Regs wording needs changing if you guys are not using colours for groups

Driver Grouping for event Five.
All drivers will be divided into groups of eight, each group will be nominated a colour and a sticker of that colour will be applied to the windscreen next to the driver's name.
Drivers will be called up by colour group.
