Default Wiper wiring

Hi All,

OK so the fuel gauge is working again. However I must have wired my wiper motor incorrectly the last time I put the car back together.

The motor would run in the off position, stop at speed 1 and run very slowly at speed 2.

I've got the dash out so I have just tried wiring it every which way to see what works. In all cases the motor did not function at all. I put it back the way it was and it does not function at all now

I checked the 20A fuse and it looks OK.

What have I done? Have I stuffed the motor?

Depends on which motor it is Cameron. This was mine. Check the wiring colours. I used a Lucas Switch (off/park, first speed and second speed). The Pins are at the back of that three position switch.

Wiper Motor to Lucas switch

Black = negative lead
Green/white stripe to Lucas Switch Pin 4 (power in at this pin)
Blue/Red stripe to Lucas Pin 2 (Park)
Green/Red Stripe to Pin 6 (Slow Speed)
Yellow/Blue stripe to Pin 8 (Fast Speed)

Thanks for the info,

Unfortunately the wire colours on my motor are probably not original.

I have the following

Red Wire
White Wire
Brown Wire
Black Wire (comes off the brown wire pin)
Black Wire (assume this is earth)

There are so many Cameron;

Mine was also unusual and there was no diagram. I just sat with the motor, a battery charger and some small wires with alligator clips and and worked thought the combinations until I found what each was for.

I checked the earth with the multi meter and its fine.

The motor wont work in any combination.

1. Earth is OK
2. Fuse is OK

Could it be the relay? Could I have damaged it by having the wiring wrong?

I have checked all wire to the wiper and discovered that there is no power. None of the wires had power in any switch position. The fuse checks out OK. The earth is OK. I think its time to call the auto elec

So, I gave in and called thew auto electrician. Turns out the elec that did the original wiring did not run it through the fuse box just in case it interfered with the body control module. There was a seperate in line fuse which had blown. Still it took him 25 mins to find it so I didnt end up feeling too bad. He also managed to sort out the wiring of the wiper motor for me. It seems that the terminal which is marked as earth on every diagram I have seen turns out to be the + power terminal (no wonder the fuse blew).

Thanks to those people who helped out
