Thats just awesome work.

Makes me wish I spent more time in metal work rather that wood work and tech drawing at school.

A credit to you and congrats on the new arrival....... our little one should be here in 12 weeks and counting down.

Nice work Liam
Oh and congrats on the birth.

Can I ask what grade stainless sheet you used?
and How hard is it to polish stainless compared to alloy ?

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

It was 304 1.5mm sheet.

Compared to alloy stainless is much harder to polish. That being said if its in reasonable condition to begin with its not too bad to polish with the right gear. The reason it took a long time to polish is because i needed to file it flat because the welding leaves slight warps here and there. Taking filing marks to a mirror finish takes some time.

Thanks David,

Dont suppose theres any jobs going at Kirkham for an inexperienced self taught fabricator

You guys are lucky to have such a fun job, heaps of great tools and get paid to do it.

Cheers.
Liam

Hi Liam,
Great work
I have an engineering background and wouldn't have even considered doing this.
Like others on this forum when you first suggested you were going to build your own windscreen I thought you must have been a nutter.

I've read so many great posts on this forum, many from people like Aussie Mike
re- designing and frabricating his rear suspension to eliminate bump steer and Tenrocca with his aluminium paint job etc, but your project was one of the most ambitious yet, well worth a second read.

Really great work and pics, I wish I had your patience.
And congatulations to you and the boss on the new baby.

Dennis

Excellent work and your wife must be a very understanding woman as well. Not many would let hubby build windscreens in such a beautiful living room!

Its all finshed now, the side posts made and polished. It looks pretty good, but not as good as the proper ones.
