Looks terrific Wazza. I like the clever hatch between the seats. Looks like you've anchored the seat belt reels inboard behind some special panels? Also which steering column have you used? If it's the usual Ford Laser then maybe you've fitted a different shroud?

Thanks for the nice comments....

Firstly, the seat belt reels were mounted back into the chassis/ body, sort of out of the way, in a stepped recess.

This was so they wouldn't intrude into the cabin, and reduce the space to get the seats as far back as possible.

It used to bug me that there was bugger all room to mount seats and make decent stretch out room trying to get a decent driving position, and a lot of the problem was caused by the seat belt reel getting in the way of the seats.

Warwick was happy to make a step in the body that got them back further, and out of the way as much as possible.

Then the trimmer made the fibreglass mould, that covered the reel, and also a couple of "channels" that cover the belts all the way to the top.

I'm happy with the end result....tidy , and nothing can get down into the reel and stuff up the belt.
( Maybe I've got too much time to think about these things ?)


Yeah, the steering column is from a laser, and then I got Scotty to make a shroud that would give the trimmer a clean surface to finish in leather.

OK gotchya. A lot of the Harrisons down here have the reels mounted up high on a small frame behind the back firewall inside the boot - which means we can't rip off your idea for a storage hatch between the seats!

It's not much of a "storage hatch" anyway.....

It came about when I was talking to the trimmer about how these Cobras are a bit tight for room, and that we are always trying to find where things can fit, without making everything so cramped.

I didn't want pockets on the doors,and he was keen to make a " secret" hatch, where you could safely leave things when you walk away from the car.

Just stuff like a few cd's, glasses case,music usb, unit key etc.

Not much of a "secret", with my big mouth I guess..ha ha.

Anyway , it was somewhere that I could use the Cobra emblem that I had asked to be recessed into to leather....
(copied that idea from looking at Neil Streeting's Cobra years ago).

I was just thinking......

I'm guessing that those who prefer their Cobras to keep to the traditional or original look, must think this sort of fussing about to be a bit prissy, and getting away from how Cobras should look.

They're probably right...

But I have always loved the Cobras...they look awesome from every angle..( a bloody hard thing for any car to achieve )....and also really like the original interior layout.

And NOTHING beats the feeling of some really hard driving in a Cobra that's been well sorted out...
But I've always admired the guys that had created an individual interior and were able to keep it looking like a SPORTS CAR.
I'm guessing its a leftover from being a spotty teenager who always wanted to have a car that I could "do up".....but I remember clearly the 2004 Nationals in Goulburn, and standing over the two Cobras owned by Audley Lloyd and Paul Gillis , and being in awe of their interiors.
I've seen plenty of nice Cobras since then, and a lot of ideas have jumped into my head, and now this is that car that I am finally getting to " do up".

It's a ton of fun.

I love it when people re-task hardware - the sink-to-vent idea you used from Scott Hampson is clever. Is there only one of those vents then? And do they permit enough flow? (I suppose you don't know about the air flow yet!).

and we've tested them, and the air flow is excellent.

Rather than blowing directly out of each foot well, and straight on to the driver or passenger......the mushroom shape of the centre of the vent when it's "popped out", sort of spreads the warm air from the heater outwards, and back towards the feet.

Also....When the heater is not wanted/used in the summer months...and you want some fresh air in the foot wells..( They can get quite hot in the summer)....

There's also a solenoid fitted to the heater, which stops the flow of hot water, and continues to blow fresh "coolish" air that we've ducted from the front of the car..

i.e. There's a glassed in channel that collects the air from the front passenger side brake duct, and up and across the top of the inner wall of the front wheel arch, to the heater...
( You can't see it, it's all covered with the black "Rhino liner" like the rest of the under guards, and it's hidden by the wheel.)

The plumbing for these vents and the demisters behind the dash , looked a bit like a bathroom wall when it was all going in....

It looks to me like the control cluster is from a Mitsubishi Colt, fitted over the Laser column. It is much more compact than the Laser cluster. It does require a deal of messing around to fit but the result looks great.

I THINK I can report that she's all done !!!!!

Waiting now for the rego process....so keeping the fingers crossed.

Took her for a bit of a run on Saturday...and apart from a final wheel alignment and some spring changes...Now done...I THINK it's finished.

I'll post some better pics when it's "over the line".

Love the mirror stainless on top of the foot boxes and the firewall. Might be pinching that idea!

The seats are a custom made from the same mold that I made seats for on the racecar...changed the width slightly so I could fit runners under the seat.

In the end...I binned the bloody runners, because it all took up space we couldn't spare.
The wheels ?
They're HA17, from Vintage Wheels in U.S.A....
