Cheapest source of Yoki tyres
Sadly Tirerack do not stock the Yokohama Y352 tyres I want to pruchase for my car.
Can anyone point me at a cheap supplier of these tyres in Melbourne?
Know they aren't the best tyre option but for 15" tyres they are the only ones I know of that come in 295/50/15 and meet an H speed rating.
This means I can have matching tyres front and back that meet the required rating.
If anyone knows of another tyre brand that achieves both these parameters please let me know otherwise I just want to source these Yoki tyres cheaply.

Check out Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T's. I had Yokohamas on my SPF for several years and liked them so much I shopped for another set only to find out they were no longer made. The Mickey Thompson's were a very good substitute. No blowouts cruisin' Montana this last summer at high speed either. And...they don't squeal like a little girl in corners either.

Check out Cooper Tyres Cobra.
http://www.coopertire.com/html/produ...?page=cobra_gt
Not available in Oz but maybe tyre rack to import some. I'm told they are quite inexpensive if imported.
I've got Yoko 352's but will replace them when ready with these more modern construction Cooper Cobras.
Would also look kewl with the cobra sidewall.

Slowy, speak to Mark at Donnellans in Box Hill. He used to own a Robnell and had plenty of 15" suggestions when I was last in there getting treads for my daily driver. He even mentioned that they order from tirerack by the container load, which surprised me.

Tires
Slowly,
Avon have 295/245 15's available.
The best 15" available, you can get a tire stencil from Raceline Digital in Canada
in Goodyear or TA type set.
Available from Stucky Tyres in Melbourne.

These tyres have a 'S' speed rating and a UTQG rating of 440 A C - I have similar tyres on my Cobra.
These tyres are better suited to large sedans/muscle cars - not so great with a light weight cobra (good fun to smoke tho...)
I think Stephen is after something a little higher spec (softer + higher speed rating)
Stephen, I think the Mickey Thompsons previously mentioned would be my choice if going for a road legal tyre.
I went to Donellans in Box Hill and although they could get the Yoki 352's they were seriously pricey - and they only do off-road Mickey T's
I think a call to tirerack will be in order....
Good luck.

Thanks guys
Some are reading my needs:
- won't touch BFG's with a barge pole
- the avon or Mickey T's idea sounds an option if they match the Yoki's for rating and dependant on how much more they cost
- already said Tirerack don't stock the Yokis and this was confirmed by email some time back
- unless the 15" options have suddenly expanded recently there are bugger all choices as of right now, not some time in the distant past - even two years ago there were a couple of other options but this 15" tyre market has dried up considerably.
So I'll make some enquiries as suggested.
Cheers

Stephen, Do a search on CC for Cooper tyres.
More specifically, read this thread about the Cooper Cobras: 295/50R-15 and 245/60R-15 tire options
Especially the last post.
Also ... have a look at this for US pricing :

The Yoki website says the 295/50/15 are available at Bob Jane Balwyn. Dunno how accurate it is, the last tyre comparison shows 2008. Can't beleive that a company of that size wouldn't update their website...

There is no doubt the Avons are the better tyre but when it comes to finding a tyre comparable to an unobtainable Yoko352 then the Cooper Cobra is a great substitute as a street tyre.
In my opinion the Yoko's were not all that wonderful anyways.

Slowly,
Try a place called Tough Tyres, they are in Ferntree Gully,
/ http://www.toughtyres.com.au/
Got mine from there a couple of years back. If not, contact Yoki and see when next lot due in, I was told they run a batch every now and then.
or
try Ebay, there has been a couple of new sets sold over the past few months
Let us know how you go
Dale.

nitto tyres
ive posted this before but nobody with 15in rims seems to have picked up on them. nitto make a 325/50/15 drag/street/race radial with a y rating which is good to 300kph, h rating is only 210kph. they are soft and sticky with good tread wear compared to mickey thompsons, have fair wet weather performance compared to mickey thompsons. they are the widest tyre that i know of to fit a 15in rim without going to a slick, the driftcar racers use them. tirerack dont sell them, the only place ive found them is at summit racing for $209.95 us plus shipping which they want a motza for. if anyone knows of another us dealer then chip in, im up for a couple and maybe we can combine the freight the tyres code is nt555r in the competition section, check them out i think they look pretty good. http://www.nittotire.com/index.html

nt555 tyre
just looked at their website again, maybe the nt555 tyre in street tyres would suit better to your application slowy, let us know what you think, they have a w speed rating to 270kph.

Thanks TomCat but the reverse problem with Nittos, have wide options for rear but no narrow for the front in matching tread pattern. Anyway 315 is too wide for me and the NT555's don't come in a 15" option.
Have found some local prices on Avons and Yokis and neither is that cheap but by all accounts the Avons slay any other 15" option for grip.
US sourced prices are good but freight is murdering the savings.
Am awaiting contact from the shipping freighter I used when I brought in Tremec boxs a couple of years ago. This will be cheaper, it jst depends by how much.
Stuckey is a local supplier with the Avons and Yokis in stock. Had a look at the tyres today and the odd tread style and bland look of these tyres belays their apparent performance capabilities.
Just wish I didn't have to mortgage the house to get a set.
Thanks all yet again.
