The guy who built my car lined the whole engine bay and transmission tunnel in Stainless Steel sheet, must have taken ages, IMHO its a neat Job.:)

Paul's "old"car was a heart breaker.

Polishing alloy is a huge pain in the ass.
I am trying to replace all alloy bits with paint or chrome. My fabricated tanks have been clear coated but it is very difficult to get the clear to stick, and also hard to buff. Ben |

Spook - great photo. That 8 throttle body intake really was something else! Technology, looks, and a big block type of a rumble out of the exhaust. Love it!

Maintenance of my polished engine bay eventually became a "been there and done it" thing, over and over. Aluminum is not forgiving. A braided cloth hose that touches the aluminum will leave a mark. Part of the wiring harness lying next to the aluminum will leave a blemish. Droplets of anti-freeze and oil were a nuisance. Just cleaning off road dust and dirt could leave swirls and traces from the rag used during the cleaning.
I had the polished look for many years, but two years ago I re-did the surfaces with Scotchbrite and WD 40. The appearance now is different, definitely less "showy", but much easier to maintain. David |
Polish it, i think they look amazing, if detailing is your thing it will be fun.

Hi have decided to paint it. The overall look that i plan on going with is the modern hotrod style look so i think painting will suit what i am going for.

The Alloy on the fire wall is for a heat shield and was recommended by the manufacturer.
My inner guards also need to be replaced because i think the previous owner had the body sitting a funny way for several years resulting in the them being quite buckled. Its easier for me to remake them with alloy rather than fibreglass. |
