spare wheel ? what have you got

well i've be thinking about boot space & travelling so , what do you guys have as a spare tyre ?, do i go standard rim & tyre or space saver as front & rear are 2 different sizes
nothing worse than cruising & having no spare just in case

I had a BWM M Coupe at one time and it came with a can of fix a flat and a 12 air pump. took up very little room.

I have bolted a small air compressor into the rear of the car for that dreaded flat tyre. It's one I use for my 4wd's and is small and pumps the tyres up quite nicely.

Failing that a can of goo.

I carry a collapsible spare on a narrowed pin-drive wheel with an air cannister:

The wheel is 5" wide (the recommended width for the Space-Saver collapsible tire). This one was made by Phil Schmidt at PS Engineering - he can make a wheel to just about any width you'd like. I have also used Weldcraft in Livonia, MI (734) 420-2211 to narrow rims - they can widen or narrow your steel, aluminum, or magnesium wheel to about any width within reason. PSE will fabricate a new wheel, Weldcraft will work with your existing wheel. Weldcraft can also straighten or repair damaged steel and alloy rims.

I carry towels and bungee cords in the event I ever have to carry a flat tire in (or on) the car. So far, in thirteen years on the road, I've only had to deal with one flat, and the tire sidewalls were so stiff, that I was able to nurse the car to a service station and air the tire back up, and gently drive it back home.

I carry this http://www.stopngo.com/products/auto/5000.asp along with a small scissor jack and tire iron with a AAA card and cell phone as a backup. I haven't had to use it yet (fingers crossed).

Having a small scissor jack that can fit under our cars is very useful. Some from the smaller Japanese cars fit under nicely.

I just bought Smart Spair by Slime. Comes with a bottle of slime and an air compresor. Compresor is 3" thick, 5.5" wide 6.5" tall weighs maybe 4lbs(that is with the bottle) $19.99. I also plan on buying a plug kit.

I carry plugging kits in all my vehicles....I haven't changed a wheel for years...most times you can catch it while the tyre is still driveable...failing that just keep a 12v compressor as well
I dont like tyre gell/slime you have to get rid of it out of the tyre ..
its not good when its cold it will throw your tyres out of balance

In the first Cobra we built, just had a narrow rim as a spare. Also carried a couple of ocky straps and something to stop the rubbing of the inside of the boot lid and of course jack, wheel brace and wheel nuts for the rim.

Had a 15 x 10" rim with 275's on the rear. It would just fit inside the boot, the lid wouldn't close but you just used the ocky straps through the handle to the over-rider brackets. Just had some material to stop the tyre rubbing on the boot lid. The front 225 tyre would fit with the boot closed.

Never worried about it on any of the current Cobra's. That's what breakdown assistance is for these days.

AC460, Don't care for gell/slime either but the compresser is nice small and seems to work well . The compresser in the Cobra, the slime will be for my lawntractor.
