Shed Question - size?
Now I know you are all going to say that size DOES matter, but unfortunately I am limited at home (I know - snicker snicker....).
She-who-shall-be-obeyed suggested today, as I was staking boundaries, that I might as well bring the side wall of the impending shed out a bit into her garden to maximise the internal room! What a woman! That will give me a shed about 4m wide. The length is fixed at 5.4m. As you can see from the rough 3Ds below, the roll-a-door is NOT at the end but on the side. The roll-a-door is 2.5m wide. I marked out the area on the road today, and I reckon I can get my car in (with a million-point manoeuvre) but the Cobra will be about 1m shorter, with a much shorter wheel base as well. My main question is: what sort of turning circle do your cars have? Any one actually have a stat on this? Do you think I will have enough space with working room, etc? I'm building mine on a rotisserie because i have limited area (was gunna say size-but didn't want to go there on this site :CRY::LOL:) and its working out real well as it allows me to move it around by myself very easily and I can roll it over etc-works a treat and only cost $1100-
Beats crawling around on the ground too I can tell you! Its nice to be able to go Hmm might fix some fuel lines today and do it sitting on a stool!! Rog ;):cool: |
My only question is, what are you going to do when it is finished?
The last thing you will want to do is move it around on quickjacks every time you want to take it out. Any reason why no roller door infront of it? Also depending on what kit you get, could help in the space bit. For the first 3 years of my build I was in a very small shed (could not have both doors open), the CR has a seperate chassis/body, I seperated the 2, sat the body on a jig with wheels, this lived in the backyard while I was working on the chassis, then swapped the 2 around when doing body stuff. But any shed is beter than none. Oh, and at 5.4 metres long, you may not have enough room to jack the car up? |
Move would be my suggestion.
Also people have way too much time on their hands to be drawing 3d cad layouts of their garages..... |

Why not a fuller length roller door instead of the smaller one your toying with!!!

mine was built in a single car garage, had room for a beer fridge (a must)in a block of units, easy!
ps: a tree called KEVIN! :LOL: check it for knives. |
Yep, wider (wide as possable) roller door, idealy I would say no roller door, but I can see if you close in side of carport, drivers door on the (Pathfinder?) may be hard to get open far enough.

A couple of options
Put a contract out on Kevin, it's amazing what a few lt of round up will do. Or raise the roof of the garage and extend it forward a mt or so, put in a hoist to stack the cars when built, a hoist is also a great help when building the car. Turn the proposed side part in to a workshop. |
Why not remove the common wall between the two sheds?
You could then just drive in through the existing carport. |
That is what I was thinking Gav, but it is not secured then, and I dont think there is enough room to close in the current carport and add a roller door to the front of it.

Cut down the tree, pay the fine, and put the door right where you want it.
