Weigh in

Due to circumstances I wasn't present during the registration process of my Cobra, hence I didn't know what it actually weighed as QT don't include this data on the rego.

So I wandered down to the local weighbridge yesterday where the guys were only too happy to oblige:

1140kg total with full fuel (70 litres say 52kg [0.75kg/l])
540kg front
620kg rear

Was a bit surprised that the rear was heavier. Might weigh again with less fuel and see how the split changes as the tank is beyond the rear axle line.

Cheers

Geoff, what rear axle are you running ?
Rog

Towmaster 04-04-2011 05:49 PM

Yeah Harrisons are usually 50/50 with an iron block V8 up front.... Alloy engines are obviously lighter..... My DRB is the same, 1285kg with me in it and half a tank of fuel, 642 front and rear... No alloy engine..

Good info Ash, thanks.

Based on my favourite scales;) my svelte like figure would bring the max up to 1235kg.

Here is a list of WA based cars and their weight for comparison.
Mostly all with iron blocks.

Don't know if the weights include the driver though.

Interesting...only 3 of 14 are nose heavy. One is running a LS engine perhaps others have aftermarket alloy blocks.

Cheers

Nope, all iron far as I know.

Rog246 04-04-2011 07:32 PM

Well it'll get interesting with my Harrison when I finally get it done. Them 5.4 iron block Fords ain't light, and they sure are big Mother's ! I think it is actually wider than a FE block
But hey like some say 'them with only 1 cam are so miserable-they wouldn't shout if a shark bit'em '
That said $1300 odd is a bit to pay for a bits steel with lumps on 'em.

45kg is a signficant saving, goes to show how large that block is.

On a 427FE it is only around a 27kg saving. I looked at the weight saving between an iron 427 & an alloy 427 block, both engines with alloy heads.

Just did a quick google search:

329kg for 429/460 & 351 Clevelands could be more. I assume iron heads.

236kg for an iron 427FE with alloy heads. 209kg with alloy block.

193kg 302w with alloy heads.

189kg for an LS3.

Interesting.

Weighed mine last week -- 644 front, 732 rear with me (105) on board and half a tank of fuel. So that's 1376 kgs under normal running conditions. We're no lightweights but we're comfortable!

Rog246 04-05-2011 12:13 AM

Craig will probably make up the difference with a blower at some stage - or not. But 45 kgs means I don't have to diet as hard as I might :3DSMILE:

Aussie Mike 04-05-2011 12:15 AM

45KG difference going from Iron to Aluminum??!! I didn't think it would be as much as that. Must be a heavy wall high nickle content on their Iron blocks.

There's probably cheaper and easier ways to remove weight. Probably easier to just add HP.

My CR weighed in at 1060KG at rego with a half tank of fuel. Not sure on the front rear split. I got it through rego with no windscreen so probably saved a few KG there with out all the stuff that goes with it i.e wipers, heater etc.

It's got a windscreen and wipers now but I've removed a heap of weight from the rear by making tubular rear arms. It'll be interesting to see what it weighs again when it's all done.

Cheers

The last two figures are interesting from my point of view - only 4kgs. Any data on the Ford Coyote weight?
