Racing Seats in Cobra

Hi Guys,

anyone have any experience in installing seats like these Velo GP-90's?

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._XXL_Small.jpg

I see these ones are ADR approved as well so have some appeal. Of course I need the XXL ones, and I believe they will fit at floor level, but the query is really how the wings etc will fit in.

Thanks

I have something similar in mine. I had to cut some notches in the sides of the wings to make clearance with the top of the door. I also had to trim a bit off the front corner to clear the tunnel. The good thing is that the I could cut and mod them and then just slip the covers back over and you wouldn't know they'd been modded.

Mine were ADR compliant and I went through rego with them.

Thanks for sharing Mike.

2 questions then. Firstly can you let us know what brand those seats are? And secondly, can you run a tape across the wing and tell me how wide they are at that point? Hmm while the tape is out, maybe tell me how wide they are internally at the hip point low in the seat too! (See if my butt will fit - yikes!)

Thanks muchly :)

I'm running the same type.
Had to do the same thing as mike.
I took a fair bit from the shoulders and also had to take about an inch out of the side of the base on the passenger side to get it past the tunnel.
Just took the cover off made the mods and put the cover back on.

The seats are made by AutotecnicA and are available Locally. An Autobarn near you probably have some you could try out for size.

AutotecnicA.com.au » Seats, Race Seat, Monza Seat, Racing Seat

The model number is A1098

One good thing about them is they don't come up as high in the hip area as some others. I'm 6' and 100KG and they don't fit me too bad where as many others are a squeeze.

If your local shop doesn't have on on display I'll drag one out and take some measurements for you.

Cheers

I bought mine a few years ago and it looks like the Imola seat has had a little bit of a face lift since I got mine. (from Revolution Race gear _ Melb).

Here's a link to Cobra Race seats. has all the dimensions listed on the site.

These seats are quite a bit more than the Autotech. They are made from a composite material and have FIA homologation.

Guys it probably doesnt matter in other states to NSW, but be careful with the claimed ADR approval. All the aftermarket seats i have seen so far have been to the old version of the ADR and not the current.

More than happy to be corrected.

Kirkey are a well known manufacturer of seats for racing and drag applications.
They make this "vintage bucket" version which would be absolutely ideal for street Cobras but it probably wouldn't come within a bull's roar of ADR approval.

Still, if comfort strength and safety mean a lot to you.....??? ;)

They also make many high back and winged versions if that's your thing.

I'd love to see the look on my engineers face if I showed him one of those seats.

Regards.

Those Kirkey seats look cool, but shipping costs on seats to Aus are way too much I think to make them viable.

Aussie Mike 08-20-2011 08:07 AM

VPW in Victoria stock Kirkey seats at pretty reasonable prices.

VPW Performance Mailorder

I'm tempted to switch to those vintage seats in mine. It wouldn't be hard to weld on some brackets to add removable head rests.

Cheers

Thank for the heads up Mike. I had been looking for an Aussie supplier with no luck so far, so this is useful info. I know in the states the Kirkey 41V vintage buckets are a popular choice for roadsters, I wonder if I could get away with them here? With a head rest of course! Then again, the 41 series is similar with a head rest too.

I tried to get kirkey but the price to import was not worth it when i could get something from racetech for a similar price or so I thought. I contacted Racetech who gave me the melbourne supplier, who I rang and after three months im still waiting for a reply!!

they look the goods just dont know how much they are!!
