Final Inspection for Rego.

Had my inspection this afternoon and failed. I got pinned for 3 items they want me to fix.
1. They want me to have a left hand mirror which I removed about a month ago because I thought it wasn't necessary.
2. I forgot to put rubbers on my pedals so I'll probably get some of that adhesive sheet that skateboarders have on their boards.
3. The distance between the roll bar and the headrest should be 150mm and I've got 90mm. I can't tell you how I'm going to fix that one here.
All up I'm really happy with the way things went. I'll book a new appointment next week and hopefully that will be the end.

Regards.

You are close then Mando. Left hand mirror is a strange one. Several of us were told the opposite. I would rely on my passenger, if there was one, to tell me what was in that LHS mirror.

It is good that you can re-book so fast. In some places you have to go back the bottom of the list.

Mando

Congratulations! Nothing better than a list - fix these three things then pay for your rego. I am surprised though that the inspectors didn't just look at you engine bay and say, "OK, here are your plates!"

Good job anyway Mando, I just wish I was that close %/

Very odd with the mirror, as I was told only commercial vehicles required passenger mirror.
But hey, it is an easy fix so just fit it, then smile and nod.

Looking forward to seeing number plates fitted at the end of next weekend

Good one Mando!
Can you just remove the roll bar?
Cheers,
Glen

Very well done Mando.

As said earlier a small list you just need to tick off.

Could you move the seat forward as an alternate fix or do they look at the gap with the seat fully back on the tracks?

Seems an odd requirement to start with anyway and I'll have to go out to the shed and measure mine out of curiosity. But then I went through the process without the bars installed at that time too.

Cheers
Steve

Mando, check if 20mm thick high-density roll bar padding is acceptable. Quick and easy fix.

By ADR i don't think this is ok. I'd be looking at doing something like fitting a stop to the seat track rail. A bolt through the rail might be effective at limiting the rearwards movement to pass the requirement.

Nice work! I can't wait for that day... :D Sounds like all easy fixes.

I'm pretty confident 20mm high-density foam will be acceptable. QLD Trans etc accept it when roll bars are that close, can't see why Regency would not. But it's best if Mando checks to confirm, I'm surprised they did not suggest it.

I'm interested to hear why you think it would be a problem. As long as it is attached securely, does not block rear visability etc, it will be fine in my opinion.

Problem with moving the seat forward is that 60mm is just too far in my opinion to look and act normal. With seat moved that far forward, I wouldn't be able to even get in and Mando definitely wouldn't be able to as he is a bit larger than me.

Mando 08-26-2011 01:48 AM

Craig, you must be joking, I could move the seat 60mm backwards let alone forwards and I still wouldn't fit.
I don't think the foam will get me through but I had already decided to restrict the movement of the seat rails as suggested by Steve Low and Sevenohms. By the way Steve how's that foot going?
As far as looking and acting normal Craig, you should have seen some of the things I turned up to the inspection with.
- the exhaust is a loaner that's been responsible for passing rego to 5 or 6 Classic Revivals. It looked like someone collected scrap from the dump and welded it all together.
- the flush mounted bonnet locks look like they came from a farm and had strips of rag tied to each one so I could open the bonnet.
- the car was barely running with the motor tuned to 3200 rpm's to meet emissions. I even had to put new plugs in just to drive it into the inspection and the car got there on the back of a flat-back truck.
- the mirror I had was plastic that came with a suction cup to attach it to the screen that iI bought from Cheap as Chips.
We'll see what happens next Friday after the next text!

Regards.

Sounds like the seat fix is easy.

I'm still pretty confident in that roll bar foam solution though. I would bet on it actually.

Will keep our fingers crossed for you.

Merv and Sharon 08-26-2011 03:33 AM

Is a roll bar compulsory?

400TT 08-26-2011 03:50 AM

No, a roll bar is not required.

Modena 08-26-2011 04:23 PM

why dont you just take the roll bar off?

congrats on getting this far!

Mando 08-26-2011 04:56 PM

Craig, when I get to the inspection next week I'll ask whether using the foam would have been acceptable. I dropped of the drivers headrest to the upholsterer and he is going to remove the padding on the rear of the head-rest so I should pick up 30-35mm just there.
Modena, the bolts holding down the 3rd leg are nearly impossible to get to without removing the fuel tank.

Regards.

Good luck with the next inspection Mando. I hope you go through with flying colours.

400TT 08-26-2011 07:23 PM

Thanks Mando that would be interesting.

We use the correct foam on GT40 internal roll cages, that is how they are passed as part of head impact protection.

That roll cage seems very close though, out of interest I will take some measurements here.

You are certainly on the home stretch with rego.
