Default New start system for Nats go-whoa & drags

I hope this reaches the QLD contingent before you leave, if not it will be part of drivers briefing.

This year, we are introducing start lights for the go-whoa & drag events. They will be similar to a drag racing system in as much as two lights assist the driver to stage the vehicle correctly, then a ‘GO’ light illuminates. It’s not complicated, just thought we would explain it ahead of time to alleviate some of the Chinese whispers. It will also be explained in the drivers briefing. We need the go-whoa in particular to run quick and smooth this year, so this might reduce the questions on the start line.

The procedure is as follows;

1. The marshaller calls up the next vehicle to stage

2. As the driver moves into stage the Amber will illuminate

3. Driver inches forward until RED also illuminates – STOP here and wait for BLUE (go) light

4. Starter activates the BLUE and you leave of your own will. The red and amber lights will extinguish on activation of the blue.

The timer is NOT activated by blue light so don’t feel pressured that you need quick reflexes.

If the RED light is on before you stage please do not move forward – wait for the marshallers instruction.

And yes you read correctly, the go light is blue for now. The light set is a disco light from Jaycar. It was the most cost effective l.e.d light box for the trial.

We should also have ready a digital display mounted near the control tower displaying the current ET for the drags.

See you all there.
