Morgan Park A series 2012

If there are any of you guys wanting to come and play in Warwick, Qld, this year for our A series then about now is the time to contact them regarding expressions of interest.

Morgan Park Raceway

You have to lodge an expression of interest with them well before xmas. They will send you an acceptance form which you have to fill out and send back along with a cheque/bank deposit for $200. This stops a lot of the 'gunnas' from entering and not turning up.

They will then send you an entry form a month out from the first event. Costs about $150 a weekend which includes a garage for the weekend. We have a half day practice on the friday after 1pm which cost $25 (not a typo). Then racing starts Saturday morning, and runs till just after lunch sunday. It is run the same way it was at the Nationals, groups of up to 8 or 10 cars. One warm up lap then form up just before the start line. 2 cars side by side, red light goes out and the first 2 cars leave, next 2 cars move up, red light goes out etc. The timing is for your total 3/4 laps, not based on individual laps, consistency is your friend... It's a ton of fun, can't believe it took me so long to get into it.

Yve Stocks (MrsFlatchat) runs a bed & breakfast in Warwick that a lot of us stay in for the weekend. We regularly have 10 - 12 Cobras with the odd GT40 and a formation of lawn mowers there on any given round.

If you are interested in doing this but don't want to commit to 4 rounds of racing (mid feb, arpil, july, september) then you don't have to do every round. Maybe you could do 2 rounds in say feb and july, then only fill in and return the entry form if you want to come along. You don't have to pay if you don't do the event. The only thing is you have to pay $200 up front around Xmas time to say you will compete in the series.

Anyways, contact them at the above website, we would be glad to see a few more of you guys up here for the events.

Questions

Ash,

Do you need a CAMS licence and how do you get one if you do?

Doesn't appear to be anywhere on the website to register an interest in 2012???

regards

Mick

Hey Mick,

1. Yes you need a CAMS licence....It's a "Level 2 Speed" (L2S ) and you'll find the application form on the CAMS website ...under "Forms"

CAMS - Confederation of Australian Motor Sport

There are no "tests" for a L2S licence....just fill out the forms and pay about $110-00.

You will also need a membership in a CAMS affiliated club.....
Most of the Cobra Club racing group are members of the

"Queensland Racing Drivers Association" ( Q.R.D.A.)".....

QRDA - Home of the Queensland Racing Drivers Association

It's only $50-00 per year for membership.

You can register your "Expression of Interest" on the Morgan Park website....just use the "Contact Us" section, and let them know you are part of the Cobra Club.
(Note: The Cobra gang race in the A Series....Not the B Series.)

Good Luck,

Cheers,
Warren.

My Interest has been expressed.

Is it difficult to get in?

Phil

Wazza 10-20-2011 08:26 PM

You should stand a good chance when they see that you're part of the growing Cobra group.
Mind you....each series is limited to about 120 cars, and the Cobra "Gang" is up to about 22 cars now.
I'll follow it up when they send out the application forms, to make sure you're not missed.
Cheers,
Warren.

John,

Not sure whether the A series or the Shannons Muscle Car shoot out would be your best option. If you were to choose the muscle car shootout then you could be here by wednesday and do a full track day at Morgan Park at Warwick on the Wednesday (providing the dates line up) and then come to QR for a full day practice on the friday, including the big track. Then the shoot out on Saturday and Sunday. It's a bigger event, despite the possibility of only 2 sessions Saturday and 2 sessions Sunday. If you were to try & enter the A series the organisers might see you are from victoria and not let you in because there would be a chance you wouldn't turn up for every round.
Just thinking out aloud.... If I was to do one event up here it would probably be the Shannons Musclecar shoot out. It is usually on the last weekend of June, so it won't be so hot......

LJ47 10-25-2011 04:47 AM

Thanks for the info Ash will pass it on to the Vic boys who are intrested in going up.
Regards LJ

Keith,

Can't guarantee it but i'm sure with a bit of notice a few would turn up. Definitely will be there Friday to Sunday at Queensland Raceway though.
