Roll Bars and ADRs
Looking for info on Roll Bars and regulations as they apply in QLD. Does having a hard top make any difference? and what are the rules regarding competition
Cheers Jeff

Jeff i think it depends on what type of "competition" your talking about.
Phil Mizzi would be the bloke to talk to in regards to roll cages which meet competition standards.
I dont think there are any rules for track days, all i know is that the roll bars have to be attached to the chassis.
I hope this is of some help to you.

Thanks for your replies. It seems logical that the bar should be equal or higher than the headrests.despite what I see from MX5's and Pugs.I can;t see that happening with my hardtop (from Evans Cobras in South Aussie) so will have to be removable. The racing would be club sprints so will talk to the guys at the next breakfast.
Cheers Jeff

I have seen one up here with a slot cut in the hardtop for the roll hoop and an air extraction vent glassed over the slot.

I had to mod the roll bar in mine quite a bit to get it to fit under the roof.
Mine is now verticle rather than set back 15deg as CR's normally are. I didn't change the mounting posts just put a bend in the bar below the body line.
It is above head height, yet still under (just) the roof.
Looks crap though, it won't stay on when the top is off!!

Merv The first cobra I saw was Driven by Ron Thorp at Surfers Raceway. It was vineyard green with a hardtop.I couldnt do that to mine. Jeff

So does that mean that a roll bar is mandatory in Vic?

Just thinking about your comments regarding your hardtop adaptation. Considering the way my DRB roll bar is designed it might be practical to remove it when the hardtop is on rather than modify it and possibly cause more harm than good? I'll wait and see how it all comes together but it's nice to know that removing it (if only for a short time) could be a legal option. Alternatively it might make more sense to have another roll bar made that just fits under the top. Gotta be better than nothin if this happens  ... **) .. :JEKYLHYDE

I will make another roll bar for when the top is off. My top however won't be off very often.

most cobra roll bars wouldnt work in a roll over anyway.

Yeah, I've seen a few made out of exhaust pipe !
|
What's the line about if you have a twenty cent head, buy a twenty cent helmet?
Well roll bars must be the same I reckon!

Being one of the first to the road accident at Wakefield Raceway, a few years back I can assure you that the roll bar saved the life of the owner - a single rollbar.

A friend of mine was also saved by his single roll bar in his cobra... But they certainly need to be structurally functional as well cos a stray piece of cosmetic pipe could also be the cause of your demise...
I ended up fitting driver and passenger bars to mine cos my passenger is just as important in regards to safety..
