As promised this morning, more magazine history of 3150. Was bought in '79 by David Ratcliff as an investment for a reported $35k, a big punt back then, from Frank Foster of Kameruka Cheese fame in Bega. Frank had it converted to RHD, and painted blue, in UK before importing it to Aus. The previous owner Peter Sherriden had painted it green. So it seems it has been painted; 1 originaly silver, 2 Red, 3 Green, 4 Blue, 5 back to Red, 6 back to Silver
As mickmate posted cover of Aust Classic Car Dec '95 http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...g?t=1324347879 Contents page...... http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...g?t=1324347111 Rear shot. Apparently this is his brother driving http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...g?t=1324348429 This one is the cover of Sports Car World Apr/May '86. The auther of the article, Peter McKay, gave Cobra's a real sledging the whole article through. I have the B&W pics from this article also http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...g?t=1324347111 Another from Sports car world '86 with owner David driving http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...g?t=1324347111 |
Thanks for the scans David. Looks like the bonnet is partially open in that last shot!
|
I always liked the rear shot from the Dec 95 mag, there is a dent in the rear guard, so it aint glass :)
|
Brilliant and many thanks David. As I think I may have said before, there has got to be a good book on Cobras in Australia.

If you want some testimony of CSX 3150 during the Golden Ages (in fact, June 66) you can read these article in my "frog" magazine (bought new by my father and carefully kept since). Sorry it's in French ! %/ Enjoy the black & white pictures of the car ! You can see there was no hood scoop, but some rectangular tail lights and sunburst wheels, among others details. The third page is about 427 Cobras and C. Shelby, and contains an interview of great french driver Jo Schlesser, who was racing some 289 at that time. For the happy guys who can read french, enjoy this short interview, absolutely delightful : how to overtake D. Piper and his P-2 Ferrari ? simple ! Just put into fourth gear, and "bye-Bye Piper" ! :3DSMILE: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../1966-2bis.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../1966-1bis.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../1966-3bis.jpg |
Nice Tom. I will be on the phone later this morning to add to my collection. Hope the Christmas is not so wet up there this year!

Cheers Andrew, just ordered myself a Christmas present through Amazon.
$44.00 delivered to my door on the faster option. |
I think I might have two copies of that book at home, presents from a couple of years back.
If I do I will advise just in case someone wants one. Cheers, Ben |

Ben, I will check my books at home, I may be keen to buy from you.

The Legate book is really outstanding, even more so for the brilliant photography and for its coverage of 'Replicas'.
