Default NSW Cobra Club Championships Friday the 13th

Who's coming?

I'll be down there next Thursday evening staying at Trappers if anyone wants to meet up. I've already got the war paint on ready for an early start Friday.
Its been a few years since this car has been to Wakefield so I'm keen to try it out. With heaps of help I've been working through lots of issues to get the car ready, so hopefully we'll get some dry weather and enjoy a great day.
At the urging of my Skyline driving son we stopped in and saw Jez at DVS tuning on the Central Coast for some dyno time While he specialises in drift cars he's not beyond problem solving where others have failed miserably. So I'm now pretty close to having it sorted (for this week anyway ). The car pulled 311hp at the wheels this run but I suspect with a little more tweaking there will be a few more ponies hiding under the hood on the day.

cheers
Paul

Hi Andrew it doesn't look like many on here coming down, everyone must be too busy getting ready... I just saw a report about lots of extra police on the Hume Hwy but I suspect they're after the skiing holiday makers rather than us cobra drivers

BJ I guess you're not staying overnight but if you are, there are a few of us having an unofficial dinner at Trappers, I'm sure you'd be more than welcome to join in. The weather is not looking too bad, chance of a shower or two means there's a chance of it not raining doesn't it?

Merv I haven't owned the car for that long, I'm still working through a long list of minor issues with the car. This week was a blown exhaust manifold gasket, and a hole had to be welded up. There was an adapter plate made of thin stainless between the water pump and the timing cover which pressure tested ok but once things heated up it leaked as it had a very fine crack in it, so a thicker version was machined up then of course the gaskets on the timing cover had to be replaced. As far as the tune went we put in cooler plugs as it was predetonating. The 311 hp was before the exhaust was fixed and with drag radials on so in all probability it would be a quite a bit higher than that. I'm not sure who built the motor but it should be good for close to 400hp it has a steel scat crank and rods, block relief with half inch studs, Mellings pump, steel double row timing, probe pistons 30 thou over, Victor Jr alloy heads 2.02 and 1.6, Holley Systemax 75mm throttle body, 30lb Holley injectors. Trickflow cam Hydraulic Roller, 339/352,Lift .542/.563 I think it was rebuilt about 4 years ago. I think thats about it lol.

What a fantastic day.
The state championships is an excellent format run by a very capable and in control NSW committee with volunteer support.

There was so much water run off on the track and it was the first time we aquaplaned across turn 2, a very unsettling feeling, there was no way records could have been broken.

It was a level playing field with those who ventured out for one more run got the benefits of an ever improving track.

Mark and Neil, you have done a fantastic job, absolute professionals.

Thanks

Phil

Thumbs up

Yep congratulations to the committee and volunteers for organising a great day out and a special thanks to whoever organised the weather: TOP JOB! You pulled off a remarkable miracle there! Now I’m off to organise some decent tyres and rims as I’ve left plenty of room for improvement at the nationals.

cheers

Paul

There was a pro hired by nswcc and we all get a copy on disk when they are ready. I'll post some when it arrives. Lots of sideways action up the hill.

Andrew, wait till Wazza sees that!

"A Pro hired by the NSWCC." and " Lots of sideways action up the hill"

He's going to run amuck with that sorta "material."

It'd be great to see some pics when they arrive. Some of the standing start sprint times were pretty impressive.

Times are probably a little deceptive.

It was a try out for nats I think. Formed on the grid, and 2 cars at a time went and raced for three laps. Best total time over the three laps counts. Looks like they have put up the best single lap out of the three. Worked well, but I realised after that the last cars on the grid have a bit of an advantage as they are crossing the start at speed. Not sure how much of a difference it would make?

I had a ball on that one - but I dont have real paint.

Andrew,
There is no advantage as all cars move up to the same position to start.
