ICE's NEW COBRA
As promised from my Cobra hunt thread here are a few Snaps of my new Cobra Replica. I understand not all are a fan off the DRB configuration, but no one ever complained about Beyonce's butt and I for one do not mind it at all.

It is indeed beautifully presented Adam. Nice car, of which you are the custodian. I have no problem with the DRB shape, or any of the slight variations of the one Cobra model that we seem to attempt to replicate in this country.
Now are you going to park it on the street tonight? |

Adam, some of the fastest Cobra's on the track in this country are DRB's of the same chassis/suspension configuration as yours. Plus those old DRB's when setup right are great street cars.
There is a lot of custom work on that DRB. And I mean a lot. Nice engine bay, I like the stainless panelling and detail work. That is a very clean scuttle(deck behind engine) all the pop rivets holding it onto the chassis have been hidden. Also very interesting way the bonnet handles lock, not like an early DRB at all. Also has the nice stainless trim rings on the front and rear indicators/taillights. Certainly agree with you, lots of nice finishing touches. I would be interested to know what year the chassis is? Also if you don't mind when it was first registered. |
Thanks Crew, He has displaced a disgruntled MPS from its 4 year domination over the garage. He happily resides there now when not in use and is protected by three similar guardians as displayed in the Cobra Hunt thread.
As far as being the custodian, well I will indeed have my work cut out to maintain the standard that Kevin has set before the onsale to the next custodian when the Big C finally gets me properly;) Heres hoping I got a few more years of cobra fun yet:) |

Congratulations Icetoo, while I'm not a fan of the early DRB butt, most people forget the fact that the view forward and experience from the drivers seat is just the same as any other.
Craig, the indicators look like they might actually be L691/L692's? |

Adam, yes, Discovery/Defender lights is what I call repro lights. What makes them look more like Lucas units is the custom stainless bezels that have been added.
1996 is great. That is what I would call an early 2nd generation DRB, just what you wanted to find. I prefer the look of the 2nd generation before DRB lifted the body height on the chassis in the next generation. The 2nd generation cars look like they are sitting quite low as the tyres fill guards nicely. I've built the same year DRB with my brother back in the day. Should see if I can dig some photos up of it. |

When I am out tinkering next time I will see if I can get the chassis year number of the tally. Kevin the builder, reckoned that it was one of the better chassis going around and I could not find any info to suggest otherwise. I am still obviously learning/reverse engineering, my new toy as only had it a couple of days and the Princess has insisted that the work and household responsibilities continue to get back up to speed from my last brief sojourn away:rolleyes: I would love to see the pics of your gen 2 as well, and I am waiting to hear back from BJ regarding his insane Cobra sidepipe shields too. Craig, the tally number and the chassis stamp begin with 96 so I am assuming that this may be the designation for the year of chassis manufacture.
Cheers pills, lets just say that I am after a set of heat shields mate before my car brands me with ownership:) |

Definitely, a bit of both here Craig....those pipes crackle.
As mentioned, the build quality and innovation was what attracted me to this car as I knew I would have a ball learning it and maintaining it. I will have to be just as creative when I decide to implement my own evolution and enhancement to the car. I know I need to HTFU Gav, but my bod has coped a flogging over the years and betting nasty problem a year back takes a lot out of a bloke. I need to help it here rather than give it more healing to do. I do enjoy the extra leg room of this gen DRB, and the extra room in the passenger footwell is a great place for the Odyssey to be hidden without giving the passenger foot cramp. Having the 90 odd mm lowered floor pan and adjustable seats is the bomb too! |
