Engine crane!!
 

ANYBODY got a Engine crane and stand they aren't using for a couple of weeks???
Have to remove a V6 from the crummodore and crack it open...car is in Craigieburn so if you any where from Box Hill to Craigieburn I can be on your door step to pick up but willing to go a little further if anyone can help!!!....otherwise it is off to SUPERCRAP or FLEABAY!!!

Update to the update Fleabay to the rescue get this 1.5T crane used once and it
looks like it ..... Big boy 4 wheel engine stand 4 mtrs of chain 1 new in box
Engine leveler and a used once leveler all for the meager sum of

I'd have offered mine if it wasn't supporting the rear topside deck off my powerboat whilst in rebuild.

Last project before I launch onto the cobra in earnest - yippee!

When I get home I'll upload some pics of the powerboat tear down - always a different prospect to fibreglassing cars!

Oh and I owe you your XL t-shirt back mate as the step from large to XL is huge.

Not a prob Slo ....I bought those allowing for the pre-shrunk Cotton to be re-Shrunk by the Missus in the dryer!!! :p ...She has a habit of putting my good tee's in the dryer occasionally!!

Partial floor removal, the centre section has since also been stripped out, more to better accommodate the internal fuel tank!

Have to mention that the old Rude-Evin 80's vintage outboard in the original shot is also to be replaced by a 2001 135HP Johnson.

This should get my boys out of the water on skis for some summer fun! And my brother and I out casting some lines in between tins!

Once finished though I will be committing my time to the cobra!

That central area is that the space you mentioned was completely ROTTEN and void of TIMBER!!...one good wave and crack Commodore Slowy would be going down with the ship!!
With all this work your doing, do you have to get the boat surveyed again??

..or is it like a car just keep the rego going and do whatever you like???

Glad to see we have the same choice in boats.
I also have a Haines Hunter V17R with a 200HP Mercury Black Max outboard.

Shame about all the dry rot but not the end of the earth to fix.

By the way the "R" in V17R stands for runabout.
The V17L is the half cabin and the V17C is the full cabin.

All over they are great boats.

Nothing dry about the rot that was there, every piece of timber was thoroughly soaked, wet and crumbling from extended immersion. The ply was delaminating or rotten mostly.

But the construction is timber insertion into a fibreglass mould ie the laminated glass hull, so the foundation to it all is untouched and the new timber just brings back all the torional strength and rigidity except of course that the transom can now carry a heavy outboard safely again.

Thanks for the correction too on hull style naming though in my mind I had the right shapes described at least.

Not too difficult a job as it is all sheet plywood I simply need to cut to shape or size. Using 15mm generally but added a 17mm layer for transom strength, though there was an intermediate fibreglass layer I couldn't replicate. Don't see this as detracting from the 32mm laminate though.

The storage area is in one of my company's yards and was the drop off point when the boat arrived on the back of a truck from Qld.

And now as of yesterday's club AGM I can can call myself Ex-Commodore so hopefully I'll have a lot more time to play with my real toy once I finish up on this boat project!!

Though I do look forward to relaunching the V17 as I too have heard the shape is a legend in terms of classic boat shapes. Was why I sourced the hull style, just chose very badly.

Time and effort will fix all this.
