Roll Bar Height
Greetings all;
Can someone tell me the approx height the drivers side roll bar hoop protrudes from the body to the highest point. I'm mucking around with mine and it needs to be cut to size. I want to get it right as it can effect the look of the whole car, and believe me , I've seen some pretty ordinary jobs Regards Chris Lidgerwood |

On the original 3000 series cars, the rollbar is approximately 40" from the floor to the top of the bend. Thats about a meter, right? :D

Chris, purely from an aesthetic point of view, you might consider laying the hoop back slightly. When the bar is straight upright, depending on other factors (windscreen angle, roll hoop thickness, even down to paint colour!) they can sometimes look a little odd.
When the hoop is laid back a little, it gives the car a more balanced appearance. A number of people mentioned that my car looked "fast" standing still but couldn't pinpoint why eventually commented on the way the rollbar flows back with the windscreen. Too much layback and it looks stupid though..... It's all about balance:) Craig Marsh |

I saw a good photo the other day of a license plate frame mounted upside down. It read "If you can read this, please turn me over..." Another thing to seriously consider is the mounting of the seats, and the use of proper harnesses. There have been some serious accidents involving Cobras lately that have highlighted the danger of driving these vehicles with safety equipment either missing completely, or incorrectly mounted. Also consider the traditional fuel caps that will empty the contents of your fuel tank in seconds if your car rolls over. The properly sealed, lockable caps can go a long way to preventing this. Craig.. I definetely agree with a gentle slope of the bar and intended to do this. I wont finally decide on height until the windscreen is fitted and possibly the seats as well. At least now I have something to work with as a reference. Regards Chris Lidgerwood PS I saw some nice Cobras coming back from Bathurst. One was a dark green( British Racing? ) with a 53 on its door. If your reading this..... how did you go? |
