Wrecked EB - AU falcon V8 - how much?

Hi,

Planning on buying a wrecked EB-AU V8 at the auctions once my chassis is ready for pick up, and using the engine, computers, wiring loom and whatever else I can recycle off it. Thinking of Pickles or Fowles, however neither of them have a history of prices for past sales I can find anywhere.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how much I might expect to pay?

Gav 09-18-2012 04:48 AM

They should pay you to take one away :)

Ryder 09-18-2012 04:54 AM

LOL probably! The other option is I can buy a unregistered EB V8 for about 1K, and maybe do the world a favour by dismantling it with a cutting disk!

Are you after a manual. Hard to find. I just bought a auto ea. If your going to do up the engine anyway, why by a AU?

Going to use a TKO600, so auto is fine. From what I understand, disabling EB-EL smartlock is a lot easier than the AU's higher security system... the only reason I'd buy an AU wreck would be maybe the better heads, injectors and throttle body, but only if the price was right.

My goals for the engine are a full rebuild and stroking to 5.6L as a definate. I want 400-450 hp at the engine absolute max, but it'll need more than just stroking to get that. I also want to keep it as drivable and smooth as it can be and emmisions compliant if possible. Was considering a supercharger as well as stroking but the $$$ is just too much... oh well I've got time to figure it out.
(EDIT: have been reading up on 347 kits vs 331 kits. Thinking a 331 stroker will be a better option due to the oil ring issue on the 347 kits)

A worn EB engine will probably do nicely for what I'm after. Thinking I'll need new cam + heads or porting + forced induction anyway, to make it work how I want it. I am quite new to 302's though so maybe I'm way off the mark - wouldn't be the first time :)

Did look at 302 HO engines but the ones I saw were not that common and seemed expensive considering what I'm trying to do. I also really like the idea of getting a complete wreck, it'll have everything I need with hopefully no dramas (wishful thinking maybe)

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone was a wrecker, or had experience from the past if they bought a wreck at auction, anything like that. Anything at all?

I have been told that the 331 is one of the best Ford variants available. Smooth, balanced and happy to rev. If I ever do up my (302) bottom end, that is my plan

I bought mine private, complete. At least you can drive it, so you know the engine is ok. Then you strip it, sell all the parts and get half your money back. Mines got a new lpg, new suspension, good body, tyres etc. Should be able to get back a thousand. That way with a decent engine you can get it registered, then do what you like after.

Nah AU's are easy to dissarm.

You buy a chip that plugs into the back of the ECu that turns off immob, VSS and body control module with manual option. I bought the chip and plugged it into my AU 205kw motor and it started easy. The chip was about $150 or so.

A mate of mine owns a wrecking yard here in the 'Ville and from memory he has a couple of what you may be looking for. PM sent with my ph no.

Ryder, if you want to obtain full street registration you will need to use an AU Falcon engine. It is the only Australian 302 engine that meets the required ADR 37/01 emissions.

You can also use USA producton engines as well, best are from the early to mid-nineties Mustang HO.

I like your idea of buying a running car as you need to be aware of engines sitting for a long time, like those that have already been removed from vehicles. The AU Falcon engines seem to be very reliable, even when they are far north of 200,000 k's on them. Tickford hand built all the later AU XR8 engines.

Good luck in your search.

Really? Hmm very interesting...
Where did you get it from?

Thank you all for the advice, looks like I need to have a chat with the engineer :) a running maybe unregistered AU is looking like a good option if I can find one! You know, once my chassis is actually finished and delivered... lol

If you end up with AU XR8 with independent rear, I may be keen on diff centre

I hope to drag this home in a few weeks

Ryder , i got my chip from TIperformance. They turned off immobiliser, body control module, speed sensor, basically everything you need done to run engine in another car.

Home - T.I. Performance

Worked really well. I am just about to order another soon.

On the ford forum I frequent there is a complete Tickford TE50 5.6 motor with ECU for sale. These are the last of the windsor motors that were stroked to 342 cubes and had a bunch of special goodies in them. 250KW and 500Nm from a factory motor.

It'd be a great Cobra power plant.

The bloke wants $6500 for it.

Ah sweet, thanks for the links!

My mate is trying very hard to convince me to use an L98 6L Commodore V8 and stock manual gearbox. He's making some very good points... Hmm got a little while longer to decide

albanycobra 12-27-2012 12:36 AM

Just an update on this thread...

I used a chip from TI performance that plugs into the back of the Ford AU falcon standard ECU. This chip turns the body control module and immobiliser off, allowing the the engine to start. The AU falcon EFI engine harness is fairly easy to seperate out from the car harness.

I just did all this to my RF GT40 and it starts and runs no worries and is ADR 37/01 compliant motor for rego.

Hope this helps and if you want more info then PM me.

Cheers
Dave
