Paintwerks

Simon,

No problem. Craig used my spare wheels at the Motorclassica event on the Kirkham.

Just had an email and he is freighting separately!

Enjoy playing.

I will be over to see you with Russell - another Pace 427 owner in waiting -

Dimis 12-22-2013 03:00 AM

Nice going Simon!
The excitement you know feel will probably be turned to fear and angst in (& I guess) 8 years, when your boy turns around and says -"how bout those keys dad". Haha.

I'm both excited and horrified at the thought of when that happens to me and my girl turns two on Tuesday. :o

Dimis

Will let you know when I head over to Paintwerks to see Simon.

Maybe catch up at the next Cobra club meeting on your side of town..

First Wed each month with dates on the Victorian Cobra site - left column.

Bernie, dimis, let me know when you arrange the excursion too as I'm keen to meet Simon, Liam and their new toy.

Hi Simon
Great to see your Pace 427 in your Workshop. 2014 is going to be a big year for Pace builders!
Have a great Christmas

Thanks Rob. Yeah, I know. I already removed it with prepsol and a cotton rag.

Anybody is very welcome to see my car if they like. I don't mind a group of people or solo visits. Just let me know. I might have to start charging admission.....lol! ;) J/K!!

Your car is flash I see you've got 2 pieces of timber from the back bulkhead to the dash

Congrats, it's such a great feeling. Look forward to seeing the build.

Ps good name for your son.

Guye

Will do. I will check when suits Paintwerks - Simon.

We are heading over for a look - Russell is a Pace customer with an order in, so we decided a visit to talk painting etc.

I have another project that requires Paintwerks expertise.

PM sent to you with my contact details... :MECOOL:

If I'm not on family duty, I'll be there :)

Well, things have been a little slow on my build because I've been saving up to buy the comprehensive kit so I can actually commence my build.

However, over last weekend I was presented with an opportunity (IMHO) far too good to pass up, so I jumped on it. I bought a heavily discounted, brand new/unfitted, Australian delivered LSA supercharged crate motor with clutch and flywheel for $10,995. This is the exact motor that is fitted to the new HSV GTS and ZL1 Camaro in the states.

430KW and 740Nm of torque...should be interesting in a sub-1000kg car!

Here's the link if anyone is interested in one for their own Cobra build (I'm told there aren't many left at this price):

HSV Holden 6 2 Litre Supercharged LSA V8 Manual Engine With Clutch | eBay

That is a very awesome engine. I am jealous. cheers Gregg

P.S. There were some quite interesting articles in the web about the challenges HSV had with ensuring they had enough frontal area for cooling inlets etc, so that GM would honour the warranty etc. Not sure if this is an issue for your Cobra or not.

Thanks Gregg.

I read about that too. The LSA uses a Magnussen MP1900 supercharger on it which my friend is also running in his E3 HSV R8. That thing has made 385kw atw for the last 12 months with no issues so it is tuned to make more power than a stock VF GTS.

So apart from the water-to-air IC/heat exchanger versus the air-to-air IC on the aftermarket Magnussen MP1900, I'm hopeful that I can get a large enough radiator in there along with a custom sized heat exchanger to sit where the oil cooler would normally sit.

It's possible I may not need an oil cooler given than the car is so light, but if I do, I should be able to mount one (or two) 9 row oil coolers in the air nostrils either side of the main mouth opening.

I run the LS3 engine with a Harrop 1900 supercharger on the top and water intercooler in the valley. I run a separate cooling radiator and pump for that and it seems to work ok.

Great engine combination as it's extremely driveable and has 417kW at the wheels when tuned on the dyno.

My total for the engine was a bit more than the $11000 but that will be a great addition to your car and I would have jumped at that engine as well. Perhaps I can put it in my FJ40 instead of the LS1.

d488y2 01-23-2014 03:21 AM

Great engine choice, maybe a 1st for an Oz build? Looking forward to watching your build come together!

Tenrocca 01-23-2014 05:12 AM

Great choice of engine. Holmart have some as well - I wonder if we will see a lot of holden goodies dumped on the market soon.

750hp 01-23-2014 07:42 AM

Great choice on the engine - that'll be a beast!

Tonus72 01-25-2014 02:49 AM

I thought you were thinking about working up to the full-power choice Simon??

Nice work. I am looking forward to this build!

Tony
