Paintwerks' Absolute Pace 427SC - Build Thread
Well, I couldn't contain my joy any longer! After 20 years of lusting and 10 years of procrastination, I finally bit the bullet and placed my deposit for a new Pace 427SC kit!
Craig has been extremely forthcoming with information and his enthusiasm and knowledge has greatly impressed me. The wonderfully straight body built to original dimensions and all-aluminium chassis pushed me over the edge on this kit compared to the others currently available. Can't wait to receive my baby early next year! |
You won't regret buying one of Craig's cars, the work that has gone into the development is second to none.

Someone I know has built two Harrison's and they are an excellent kit (and Warwick is a lovely guy too) and I strongly considered getting one myself, but I'm kind of an early adopter and wanted a kit that offers what the others currently don't - an all-aluminium chassis. Plus the Pace 427SC body is to die for! I know I'll be running the classic 15" wheels as I love that look - most of the car will be fitted with original-styled parts as opposed to the 'newer' parts that some have chosen to fit. Powertrain-wise, I'm thinking of either an LS3 or possibly a Ford Coyote motor....but I don't have to have a Ford motor and like the extra 1200cc that the LS3 offers. And, as I own a bodyshop, I'll be doing the paint and finish myself as well....although I'm completely undecided on colour at this point! I've found the Australian Cobra Club forum very informative and have enjoyed reading the posts and learning. Happy to finally be official and no longer a lurker!:p |

Congratulations. Welcome to the forum. I am hoping Craig has one of his cars at the Nationals to look at. They sound like a great car.

Well done on placing an order. I had the privilege of seeing Craig's staff develop the Cobra and GT40 body over 8 months. The quality of the moulds and the bodies that are coming out are sensational. The option of colour will see a number of new owners leave them rather than painting. As you said you are in the body paint works business and recognize the quality. The early chassis development is great as well. I am in Queensland tomorrow and will see Craig. I do know he is taking aluminum Kirkham parts and a glass Cobra body to the Nationals at Wakefield Park. So will find out what other trick things he is taking down to Wakefield Park for next weekends Nationals. Again well done on your purchase - a great kit. Bernie |

Gregg, I believe Craig will be bringing down a variety of Kirkham parts. Including a brushed aluminum Cobra 427 with a Shelby 468ci all aluminum engine. The Kirkham parts will be suspension and other billet parts. I understand we arrive in Wakefield Park and Goulburn late Thursday. |

For not only does he use the wrong engine, he has chosen poorly with his transmission and by all accounts, only has 2 pedals. Well done. If I was starting now this is what I would be doing, with a Ford motor for maximum originality, and old school looks on the fit out. We will be following this thread with interest.

Fantastic news, well done and congratulations on the purchase. Now stop reading and go building - oops you dont have a car yet, go back to reading about engines, trannys, gaues, etc in the meantime!

Re the motor choice, the Coyote does make sense to the 'heritage' of the car, and the bonus is that it's about $2K cheaper than an LS3. Given that both motors make about the same peak HP, I wonder how much extra torque I'd gain from the additional displacement of the LS3? Also, in a 1000-1200kg car, is that extra displacement really necessary? |
