Back to being a Rubber Grub !!
Well after 20 odd (no not strange ) years out of the business I'm back in the tyre trade.
Its a long time out of the trade and the learning is steep but its all starting to come back albeit slowly.
I now manage Tyre Zone at Capalaba in QLD. 07 3245 6125 and ask for me.
We are a platium dealer for both TOYO and KUMHO so if I can help club members give me a call and I'll do the very best I can for you all.
With the Nationals coming up you might need something so.....
Hope I can help
Rog

Thanks Merv, I can tell you being out of work for 2 years sucks big time !! and it certainly slowed down my build-no real surprise there
Anyway onward and upward as they say. As I said if i can help anyone I will, and thank YOU for your response.

Okay, from what I could gather this morning, there are really only 2 choices in brands as Bridgestone, BF Goodrich (owned by Michelin for the last 12-15yrs) Hankook Riken etc were pretty much the main suppliers and they apparently no longer produce any for Australia now.
BF Goodrich and Road Hugger and Mickey Thompson are kinda available. There is a bloke on the gold coast who has limited numbers of BFG in the following sizes.
14"
215/60x14,225/60x14,235/60x14 & 245/60x14
15"
205/60
215/60
225/60
235/60, 245/60 , 255/60, 275/60,
295/50
235/70 & 255/70x15
these are the sizes that he lists as available.
Would suggest maybe Tire Rack & I could help with fitting etc. I would choose a Comp T/A over a straight T/A (only ever SR rated )any day, and you won't have any issues with compliance as the Comp's( which aren't all that bad a tyre), come HR VR and ZR rated.
That's all I could come up with this morning, but give me a bit of time and I might be able to do better as i get a better feel of things.
What ever you choose do go with Nitrogen to fill the suckers, it works out a little more expensive BUT you won't have air bleeding out through the sidewalls as happens with most tyres, especially if vehicle is left standing for long periods etc. We charge $10/tyre retail but I'll be able to do better I'm sure.
Hope that helps
Rog

Hey Rog,
Since Yoko cut away the 352 range, also have issue s with fat rubber for the 15" rims.
I run 15" x 10'"on the stern and 15" x 8" at the pointy end...
So the rubber I am after is 275/50r15 0r 295/50r15 87W rated for the back end and 225 or 235/50r15 87 W.
I am looking at this combo on tyre rack.....
Rears...
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial 2....275/50R15
BFGoodrich*g-Force T/A Drag Radial 2
Fronts.....
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial 225/50r 15
BFGoodrich*g-Force T/A Drag Radial
I know they are more track then street but can ease them through rego...
....interested in your prices or something dimensionally and performance equivalent,,,as I would prefer to support local and a club member if your price and availability was a few bucks more and a couple of weeks longer

I'm not sure about anyone else but I wouldn't be putting drag radials on the front....

I've got a set of Kuhmo Estca KU36, 315/35 rears and so far they have handled the power quite nicely, but need to get them warmed up a bit before giving it a decent squirt, otherwise they just turn tyre into smoke, but once warm they are good.

Hey Icetoo
Well a bit of research brought these up-and yes the speed ratings are very good but odd sizing sorta !! LOL
Well they are Michelins and they're French-.....need I say more. I have no idea on pricing yet, that will require some phone calls to check price and availability etc.
I found these 280/45vr15 yep!
240/45zr15 & 240/55vr15 again yep!
must be Ferrari Mazza or maybe Lambo or possibly Facel Vega
I rty and get some sense tomorrow

Well Nitto do a 275/50x15 in a V rated as well as a 325/50x15. haven't as yet found something for the front, but its a start though. Hope this helps a bit. maybe more tomorrow and MAYBE some pricing too.

Indy Firehawks also come in suitable 15 options for front and rear though they are only relatively lowly speed rated. Of course there is always Avons but at about $2600 for all four corners they are not a cheap option.
I'd be keen to know how the Indy's are rated in the grip department by comparison if this information is available to you!
Cheers

Guys I'm not going to post any pricing on here, so if you need something just PM me and I'll do my best to help. We do nitrogen as well and every little bit helps.
I can get Toyo, Kumho and Federal race rubber at the right price as well.

Cooper tyres in the US have an acceptable tyre (if not better) than the old 15" Yoko 352 series.
http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Passe...ADIAL-G-T.aspx
235/60/15 or 245/60/15 for the front and 295/50/15 for the rear. Not a bad tyre for street use.
I also heard Mickey Thompson had a similar tyre.

Good luck with the new job.
Looks like you have sparked the interest in the tyre frying community here. Good to hear you maybe getting your car build going again.

It is very similar, considering it comes out of the same factory (so I've been told) !
