Slowy's errr Fasty's colour combo

Rob

Think I had posted some of these photos in the past.

Had a stock BA bonnet in rapid yellow sprayed with the Honda blue as a full scale replica of the planned stripe layout. This allowed the bride (Fasty as one of my mates nicknamed Annie years ago) and I to gauge her colour selection. I was allowed to build the car on the basis she chose the colours. ;)

Anyway the blue has pearl as standard and in flat light looks black - go yellow and black, but with any sun the blue become quite spectacular. Look where the sun hits the curved sections for some idea.

However the photos don't do the blue justice.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/Bluehue1.jpg

Had the bonnet on a trailer when we went to the trimmers to select colours and it was alternative sun and cloud. This was good to see the variances against the planned trim fabrics but it didn't change our trim material colour selections.

In all my searching I've not seen this colour combo other than a pale blue - yellow race cobra so it is quite unique.

Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but there are plenty of blue - white variants already.

Can't wait to see the finished product that's for sure. :D:D

Cheers

Further progress

So visited Greg's man cave this afternoon and discovered some pleasing progress as shown below.

Initial prepared body

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psca2a2f23.jpg

Nothing like a smooth clean bum - DoH

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps06d3d848.jpg

And a couple of the swinging panels

Boot

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psebbfb81c.jpg

And the passenger door not looking too bad atop

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps1af00ac1.jpg

Beginning to look like a finished article with its first solid coat of primer.

I gather quite some rubbing and guide coating to go, plus finishing off the bonnet but she has progressed - woo hoo!!!

Enjoy - I certainly did

Looking good Slowy.

leroy17 02-17-2015 11:22 AM

Steve, great work to see it at this point and I bet you were grinning from ear to ear.

Not long now till you get the see what you have seen on the test bonnet for I am sure has seemed like ages now on the entire car.

Load plenty of pics when its done and during assembly, enjoy all you time and effort before hand.

A very small update with huge implications

I have been told by Greg that he is spending this coming long weekend in the paint booth applying the colours to my car.

There will be plenty of photos sent out next week presumably, when I can get up to his place to photograph this transfomation.

Seems the God's are smiling elsewhere too as I've spied a modest sheetmetal folder for sale that would suit my hobby bending needs.

And this all times very well too with lodgement of last years tax return finally and a very healthy refund expected.

Life is good though I've found myself overloaded with projects again, one of which is a shed build that I will ping in a seperate thread for advice on foundations.

Cheers

Steve

Finally the big update......in colour!

So young Greg has worked his magic again over the long weekend. Am told this is the 7th year of Labour Day long weekend cobra painting.

Needs the three days to get colour, stripes and clear all laid.

So enjoy, I did taking the photos!

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psrnw2qure.jpg

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0ezhr6d4.jpg

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...pszzvvzhma.jpg

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9nedvziw.jpg

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psxxic3eop.jpg

A rest for the paint to harden, and about a week to fix bits within the engine bay and the car will be back home again.

Then the push is on to get various parts refitted for the trimmer as well as some aluminium folding for kick panels.

Busy times ahead!

Cheers

Rapid Yellow - the superior colour choice :D

Well done Slowy

Looks great mate. Those stripes really come alive with the direct sun reflection!

gjkrv8 03-10-2015 02:00 PM

Looking great Slowy. Great colour combination.

(P.S. I think one of those long weekends was mine - about 6 years ago now.)

Cheers Gregg

stephen low 03-10-2015 09:03 PM

Thanks guys.

Yes Michael the only choice and in fact I believe the colour of the first cobra built too. Though I did read the car was resprayed repeatedly to appear at different motor show.

Anyway hopefully not too "Rapid" this time around - DoH

Craig that was the beauty of this colour, in flat light we get the ol Yellow and Black theme look but with any sun, a very different beast in brilliant blue. This is a honda colour with Pearl in the mix.

Anyway have now also aquired a modest bender to be ready to start making up cabin kick panels on the car's return, along with final fitting of various items for the trimmer to work too.

Cheers

Yellow

Slowly,

Fantastic result, looks great, I love yellow and with the black

Pearl stripes it will look a treat.

Looking forward to swing it on the road soon.

Now comes the really fun part of putting on the shiny bits.

Keep going with the updates, things will/should more relatively quick here now.

Further progress

Had to drop off bits to Greg today for fitting shortly and discovered further progress.

As mentioned previously, the car still needed repair to a few items in the engine bay and Greg still had to finish off the underside of the boot and bonnet. So found the car like this today.....

Mc-Cobra anyone????

Shrink wrapped cobra!

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8m6oi55d.jpg

Some of the engine bay repairs

And what's in that "plain brown packaging" as my wife said tonight looking at the photos - DoH.............I had to laugh!!!!! :JEKYLHYDE:p:JEKYLHYDE

Should I have looked at her with a straight face and just said ...boat anchor???

But no to semi quote a famous local film......"it's the last of the Windsors, it's the ducks guts"

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psohmpu0vz.jpg

A bit hard to see but the third light all lined up.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psziujqou2.jpg

The repairs needed were part mis-communication as to what holes needed filling first time around and new ones developed, some damage during body install and along the way, it has been 8 years remember!!!

Anyway I was also succesful on fleabay getting this sheet metal bender to do the aluminium work I'll need.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psjwiiytbf.jpg

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psov4gqutm.jpg

It is 1 metre wide and will nicely bend my planned 2mm thick aluminium panelling I need for my cockpit. I'll also later attach panels around the radiator at a later date.

So awaiting the car's return but feeling good about the whole journey now!

Enjoy

jcraigau 03-24-2015 03:45 AM

That bender is exactly what I need at the moment.
I've got 1.5mm aluminium all cut to size, just needs bending.

Anyone in Perth got one?

stephen low 03-24-2015 05:36 AM

Mate

Happy for you to fly over and bend all your panels if you like - lol

But really, can't you find a sympathetic machine shop that will let you do your own bending locally?

You could be patient like me and wait about a year for the right thing to pop up too - ha ha - sorry

jcraigau 03-24-2015 05:44 AM

Thanks Steve, I might take you up on that offer. I was in Melbourne last week for biz...
We have our club meeting tomorrow night and there should be someone there that will have the right tools, there always seems to be!

I did that with my engine crane when Mals went out of business and Autobahn took over. They had cranes in Mals boxes and had them for 70% off... Once I threw the box away it was EXACTLY the same as the Autobahn ones for $299.

Easter present but better than eggs

So a great early Easter present arrived late today.

Many thanks to Greg for his great work.

And the pressure is now back on me to move the project forward again.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psxldraudt.jpg

Now that is a nice bum....! Even if I say so myself.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...pspzs7q7v2.jpg

In need of some side pipes and vents to finish her off.

And of course a lowered front end.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...psph6w2e4t.jpg

Saying as it is.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...pskedllsrt.jpg

And no it won't make it to Shelbyfest before some smarty makes the quip.

And yes it is the most expensive taxi to flag fall in Victoria!!

So now just have to get on with the program.

Cheers and enjoy.

Steve

leroy17 04-04-2015 01:09 PM

What an Easter present..... awesome for you to have it back and I am sure that you got bugger all sleep last night again now that your baby is back from the beauty parlor.

Panel gapping looks spot on, you have got to be happy with that.

Keep up the updates, its been a little quiet in here.

Modena 04-04-2015 04:04 PM

that looks great slowy, now to get it driving!

stephen low 04-04-2015 04:08 PM

Thanks guys.

But still a fair bit of work to get her finally ready for a RWC and then rego but closer than she's been before.

On getting a roadworthy can anyone suggest a local shop that is cobra sypathetic.

Cheers

Steve
