Batteries
Hi all,
I found out the hard way after the nationals that the AC Delco battery I had in the Cobra was not up to the cornering G's I had been subjecting it to.
There was acid spewing out the vent holes, given it is a sealed battery I was a bit miffed.
Sam has now got it in his paddock bomb, so all is not lost
Anyway, so after looking about everywhere I bought a Optima battery from Batterymart.
Battery Mart Australia
Their prices and service where great. I ordered it on Tuesday it was on my doorstep today and cost $257 + $15 freight.
I would recommend them.

That's a good price Gav. I paid about $350 for mine from memory.

I bought a new blue top last week, cost me $320 from local Alice Springs supplier.
Blue is for marine, has a higher CCA rating.

Did you buy the blue one because your car is a barge Dave?

Nah it would have been titled 'kick start' if that was the case.
Besides, wasn't it YOUR mum that accused YOU of leaving YOUR dildo at her house?

Gav you linked to the odyssey, I think you meant this for Optima;
Battery Mart Australia
boxhead I thought there were no-no's around using a deep-cycle battery in a car electrical system? To my understanding a car battery will punch out far greater oomph than a deep cycle battery for a short period, while a marine battery is designed for low draw over a longer period (running lights on a boat for example, while the engine is off). Due to the thin plate design in a car battery it will punch out more grunt for engine starting, but will not provide anywhere near as long a low-current draw as a deep cycle battery with its thicker plate design. Given the Optima's are such a good battery it's probably not a problem anyway.

For my money I have and do use Odyssey sealed batteries for performance and longevity.
They are pricey but IMO the best worry free battery to use.
The one I have in my 40 has been there since first rego 5 years ago and is still as good as the day it was installed.

I have a Backdraft with a 351 stroker. I need to replace the battery. What size and kind do you recommend. The one I have now looks like a size 34, but it has no markings on it. It's 10" long 6"wide and about 7" tall.

I have abandoned Optima. Perhaps it is just my bad luck. If you can tolerate the size and weight a good sealed gel mat is cheapest and heaviest and works just fine. But in one car I am running a Braille. I have been very impressed. It has been there a year. I am tickled with it. Very, very light. Spins my motor just fine.

I spoke to a BRAILLE rep at Summernats...they are not cheap but they are lightweight and claim very high cold cranking amps.... Braille Battery Australia      Lighter • Stronger • Faster. At their display I picked up a motorcycle battery and stated that it must be a 'demo prop' It weighed like it was just the empty case. The Rep. said no that was an actual battery. It weighed about 500 gms.
