Thanks Stiff.
Should class 5 read 'no slicks' too?

Wow, not many options if you run LS power plant.
Whats that.
Close to half the field in one class?
And a stock engine (mine) runs against a turbo or supercharged engine (ie if he was racing Gareth).

How many SC540's run?
How many Daytona's run?

I personally dont care about trophies (ie i could stay home and save the $2500 fuel cost to get there and back to buy my own trophy), but really, all LS/Modular engines lumped with super charged and turbo charged cars?

Dave/Gav,

The Cobra classes have trophies from 1st to 3rd, the others i..e Daytona/SC540/GT40/Mustang have only one.

The bulk of the Cobra's will mixed between classes 2/3/4/5.

There are a lot of Windsor/Cleveland based Cobra's running around on Radials

or R spec tyres. The SF Committee decided to split the older Ford's from the

modern Coyote/Modular/LS/Toyota as it was felt there was too much of an

advantage for the modern motors.

FYO, in the last 5 years there has only been 2 Turbo/SC cars in the top

10!!!!! AND IN 2009 ONE OF THEM WAS A GIRL.

Dave, wouldnt you (and I) with our 5.7L LS1 be in class 2 or 3? i.e. Depending on tyres? as to Class 2 or 3? It doesnt exclude LS motors in Class 2 or 3. Just capacity and Turbo/Supercharged etc. Cheers Gregg

Gav,

Slicks are only for class 6 ( Race Class )

Gregg,

All modern motors ( Coyote/LS/Toyota/Modular ) are in Class 5.

I dont know why you would think that modern engines have an advantage as the top ten fastest cobras last year only had one modern engine in it.

The SF Committe are trying to attract non hard core track drivers to race cars with the least amount of classes. It was desided by having all the modern engines together the performance would be simular as most of these engines are not highly modified. The events in the sprints will cater for all types of drivers from first time to hard core. Please remember this is a celabration of Shellby cars and not the cobra Nationals. As we all know it is very hard to get the perfect formula on class to keep every body happy.
Aussie Mike and Gav like this.

Not sure Gregg, the way I read it was that all modular engines are class 5.

Maybe a commitee member can clarify?

Dave, see Rohans ealrier post, this clarifies it. Class 5 for us.

I am happy either way - just want to improve my time and not break anything.

Cheers Gregg

Smile

Sorry guys won't see you all there this year. Spent too much time away so will have to give it a miss. Hope to be back next year. Not sure on the class thing but the fastest is not always the one with the most horsepower. John White won King Cobra with a reasonably standard 4 litre Toyota V8 that put out less HP than even a standard LS1..... Just a thought.
