Minilites on a Cobra
Had bit of a passion for Minilite wheels ever since I saw Moff in the Coca Cola Mustang at Warwick Farm when I was a younger kid
I'm looking for some pic's if anyone has any, of a Cobra with some fitted. Part of me likes the idea, but the bast*rd part of says go traditional with Halibrands. Sooooo...if anyone out there has a photo, I would much appreciate a look see. Rog |
X2 on Minilites....

Not answering your question, but during my (original) Cobra days in the 1970s, I had a bud who bought a set of Minilites for the 427 he was rebuilding. Sadly, he succumbed to a couple of nasty illnesses before the build was done, so I never saw them on the car.

I say got for it also.

Somewhere I have seen pitures of a Cobra racing on Minilites in the early 70s........
|
I've never seen Minilites on a Cobra, which is strange because they look so good on Healeys

Bj that's the one I was thinking of. Never new it came up from tassie. Wow impressive.

I think they look terrific on a Cobra but I feel that they aren't more widely used because they're regarded by many people as being not quite "correct". You wouldn't put them on a genuine Cobra out of respect for its heritage, but for our cars they're a very acceptable alternative to Halibrand-style wheels.
The original Minilite 15" wheel is to my mind a beautiful enduring design, perfectly in proportion. I have seen 17" versions where the "fingers" seem to be stretched and the appearance seems to lose its lovely balanced aspect. Having said that though, there's a black Porsche GT3 RS getting about in Brisbane with 19" Minilite lookalikes, in lime green to match the identifying signage on the bodywork, that looks pretty good but the wheels are so big that they have ceased to retain the distinctive character of a true Minilite. My thoughts? 15" Minilites with the fingers and centres in the car's body colour, especially if it's a dark colour, with polished rims and spinners. There was a black Healey 3000 in Sydney a long time ago with this set-up on 15" Minilites and it looked sensational. |
Leeroy has a set as well that look very good. I think they were team 3's. Has his race tyres on them I think. Ive seen pics - someone whould have them (one of a spin at Shelbyfest a few years back comes to mind)

the blue car above has "Superlites" they have a longer spoke. Yes I have minilites on my car. I will try to get a good pic and post for you Doug |
This is what I'm going to install on mine. I think it's a good option for the Minilite look.
ET Wheels by Team III Wheels I love the look of these and I too am looking for more photos to enjoy and reinforce my decision. Great selection on the sizes too. I currently have 15" Dia. Centerline. 10" wide on the front and 12 " wide on the back so this is a good option for me. I will have to get larger diameter wheels as there is a wider selection of tires available. Yes I know this is not a traditional look and some purists may not approve, but my Cobra shaped hot-rod won't mind at all. I am by nature somewhat of a contrarian. |
Thanks for that. I've been looking at Team III for a while too, and that is what probably prompted me. Thanks again
