Sambo,

I saw a white body just out of the mould this week. Even with part lines it looked fantastic and could pass for a glossy painted finish from 10 feet.

The hot rod and boat guys have been doing quality gellcoat work like this for years, it is good to see a Cobra manufacturer getting it right!

with gelcoat there is really no need to clear coat it as it's quite thick I put a reasonable scratch in my boats gelcoat all we did was rub the scratch out and rebuff and you couldn't tell there had ever been a scratch . with paints and clear coats there only microns thick gelcoat would be at least 10 times thicker maybe more . even if you let gelcoat fade think of 30 yr old boats you rub them back and buff they come up like new I cant see any reason these cobra bodys would be any different imho.

cheers dean

Here are some photos AFTER a light buff.

If its not shiny enough for you Sambo then I will use some McGuires polish on it just for you

Cheers All

See you at the Nationals

Brad, thought it was time to get Pete to give it a quick polish for you to take out the marks and scratches incurred during the build.

See what happens when you are not at the workshop for a day...

Enjoy.

Looks great Brad. Would you say it's a better finish than a 10 grand paint job?

Sambo, our bodies are not just a nice surface finish. In my experience we have produced a much higher quality body with the materials we use and construction techniques we employ. Our bodies are much, much stronger, also lighter, more durable and more consistent.

Are our bodies better than a 10k paint job? If it costs $10k to paint an average Cobra, ours will be significantly less money to paint.

Also after 6 - 12 months, the PACE 427's will be straighter, less prone to cracks, star cracks and more resistant to impact damage etc. We also fully protect/cover under the front nose and also the complete inside rear guards with our chassis.

My pet hate with all the Cobra's I have built and owned is the body quality, or lack there of.

And we just keep fine tuning the construction, quality etc. Unfortunately for existing owners we can't upgrade their bodies. But every existing PACE 427 owner does benefit from any new or upgraded parts, we retro-supply every part to existing owners. So our kits now contain significantly more parts than when we first supplied them, but every owner gets every new par even though they paid less for their original kits.

Craig, eventually all good lookers fade away and it's the personality we need to be able to live with.

Congratulations, Brad, and all at AP. It is great to see the first AP 427 pass its road and engineering tests with flying colours.

You must be delighted, Brad - and deservedly so. After all that hard work, now you get to do the fun stuff - drive the car! Looking forward to seeing you and it in a couple of weeks at the Nationals.

And now to get the first AP registered in NSW.... I'm working hard to make that happen!!

Richard

Actually...while I don't know about the current Ferrari models, the F360 uses a fibreglass front bumper and it's 'as supplied' quality is far from perfect. Their bumpers need a lot of work to get ready for paint. And we're talking about a $3K bumper here!

Here is the white body at Pace:
