Vehicle Modifications and Standards working group...
Last night, a meeting was held to discuss the modifications and standards as they are applied to vehicles in Queensland.
Those who attended covered pretty-much the entire spectrum of motoring enthusiasts - not only owners and drivers of vehicles subject to the guidelines, but also from within the motoring industry; after market manufacturing, vehicle importers, mechanics, engineers, RWC inspectors, driver trainers; what a group.
Most obvious was the fact that no-matter what your involvement with motor vehicles, there are issues in dealing with government when dealing with policies revolving around modifications and standards; in short, where there are bureaucrats and motor vehicles, there are inevitably issues...
It also became obvious that the list of complaints about modifications and standards appears to be never ending, and to compile a complete list would be near-impossible. It was also obvious that, to attempt to prioritise and tackle this infinite list of issues head-on would undoubtedly end in disaster for all concerned (except, of course, for the government).
So, what was the outcome? Well, being unable to give too much away at this time, I would suggest that a Queensland working group will be formed in the next few weeks, and it seems certain that the group will adopt the policy developed by the NSW working group - that is, to first develop a working relationship with the relevant departments who make the rules, then steadily chip-away at the policies over time.
If this seems like a drawn-out process, you're right - change will not happen quickly; but rest assured, change will occur. Our NSW counterparts have (in only two years) had tremendous success in their dealings with government and have managed to overturn several modification rules and also prevent a few others others from being implemented.
Whilst I would personally like everything to turn-around overnight, I have to be a realist and accept that this can never happen. I do, however, know that perseverance and with the right approach, with the right attitude by all of us, we will preserve our rights to modify and drive the vehicle of our choice for generations to come.
Oh and by the way - remember this isn't just about Qld and NSW. Branches of the ACMC will be operational in ALL States before the end of the year, and each branch, with your support, will tackle the issues of vehicle modification and standards...
