110 to 130 speed limit upgrade
What is everyone's thoughts on the big petition push at the moment to get the motorways upgraded to 130kph?
Been a lot of action on Facebook about it lately.

My initial reaction was yes but then I thought about it and changed my mind to no. People already drive like idiots in 110 zone. Imagine the person that sits just above the speed limit in the right lane. He will then be doing 140+.

its not hte idiots doing 110 that cause most problems
its the idiots who do 90 in the far right lanes
i recon more crashes are caused by slow drivers than fast drivers
its just that the slow driver causes the problem but making the fatser driver to tke avaisive action
by then the faster driver has crashed into another car and at fault
and the dickhead slow driver has just keep on driving at 80 or 90 kph down the road not know what the fk he has caused
anyway it will never happen
my friend on facebook after the person died at a party in penrith last week due to drugs says legalising some softcore drugs makes so much sense due to it getting rid of most of the hard core drugs of the street or something like that
well this is similar story
when u look at the pros and cons the pros might outweigh the cons but the govt will still never bring the law in
plus the revenue the govt gets from fines will drop
plus in qld most cars are bloody ****boxes because u dont have to get the rego checked every year so most wont do 140 hehe

My opinion, based on driving in the Northern Territory, before and after the 130 km limit is;
1. the dvrs sitting on anything greater than 120 continuously seemed to be public servants / govt cars as they didn't pay the fuel bill.
2. They were pulling into the next fuel stop as their range was limited. (petrol sedans)
3. They were not driving at this speed at night because of animals so they wanted to get between Darwin/Alice/Adelaide in thirteen or so hours of daylight.
4. I drove a considerable distance at 150 km/hr and watched my fuel gauge act as if I had a large hole in my fuel tank.
5. I think the biggest benefit is being able to belt past a semi and meet Mr Plod in his speed detector equipped cruiser coming the other way and not be booked for speeding.
6. The nuts who drive like nuts don't know/care if the speed limit is 110 130 or 80 kmh.
4.

I haven't seen the page.
BUT...
It gets my vote for out of city limits driving.
Ie: between towns and outer freeways.
That should be a "NO-Brainer".
Even the lowest skill drivers should be able to cope.
By that I mean, if they can handle 110 they can handle 130.
Not too sure about hyws and fwys that are in town.
Eg: anything inside the ring roads around town, or roads that are available to cyclist to share without having the provision for a cycling lane.
As for Sydney, their city fwys speed limits are already a farce. There's that much traffic on them you can't even pretend to safely get close to the suggested speed limit.
For mine speed is NOT the issue.
The difference in Speed is the issue so if trucks are still limited to 100. The 130 limit will cause frustration to drivers and impatience... And that poses the problem from where I sit.

spending most of my time on the hume hwy, which now has not a single traffic light from melbourne to sydney or a single town, i think you could get away with 110klm in the left lane and 130klm in the right lane, maybe an advanced driver rule on your lic, now that every cop car has lic plate recognition.
talking fuel consuption, i found the ve ss to use less fuel at speeds above 110klm, as the car is basically just above idle at 110klm.

thats good that melb to sydney has no traffic lights and alot of rural towns which maybe the 130 rule will work
but sydney to brissy is still a ****fight where u have small stretches of roads u might get away with 130 but the speed limit on pacific hwy changes way to often
we should move to germany and drive on the autobarns

I'm all for deristricted speed zones, however, in this day and age attitudes and responsibilities need to meet the challenge as most of the public these days come from the school of high esteem.........
...and most Queensland roads need to be dramatically improved as well
